When you went to the interview did they give you a reason for them denying your J-1 au pair? Common reasons why J-1 Visas are denied include:

  • If the Embassy thinks the Au Pair does not intend to return home.
- Au Pairs are considered “intending immigrants” until they can prove their reason to return to their home country is stronger than that of staying in America.
  • The Embassy compares metrics of other Au Pairs from the same country.
- If many past J-1 Visa holders from the applicant’s home country eventually stayed as immigrants in the U.S., the chance of getting denied is higher.
  • If the Au Pair’s home country is experiencing economic or political problems like in Libya, denial rates rise.
  • Au Pairs must be able to speak adequate conversational English.
  • The Embassy may check other visas belonging to the Au Pair and their family members

Are any of the above reasons what you were told? If so please state which reason you were told.

I would say the first reason:

They said that i didnt have strong ties to my country that would make me come back .

What do you think it might happen now ?

So from what you said I see no misrepresentation, so I do not see why this might hold everything up. You may get asked about your previous denial at your interview in Montreal, but I see no reason that your P4 is being held up. It says on the Canada Immigration guide to keep calling DOS until your P4 has been sent out. I would also keep checking your email to see if you have received your P4 by email.

They may have recieved it but it may just not be logged into the system yet.

No need to call, they won't tell you anything different from the DoS.

If you put your email address on the paperwork (I forget which form exactly) you'll receive an email from the Consulate when your paperwork is completed.

It takes a lot of time at MTL, they are nice and slow. Check out our timeline in my signature for an idea of the time it takes once you send in packet 3.

Yeah, it took some time after they had receive the packet 3 to actually log it in their system for us. smile.png And once they did we got an email.

Actually , as you can see in my signature, it took 10 days for them to log it in. Don't worry too much yet, it's probably just sitting in a pile of unread mail, they'll get to it.

Thanks Allanah and Chris,

I noticed that for your interview scheduled from the package 4 it is almost is more than a month gap !!

Just a curiosity as far package 3 : there was a form ( i cant remember which number exactly either) where they were asking for proof of relationship, police certificates, etc

Did you send these with the P3 or did you just let them know about it in the checklist?

Current interview dates are in December right now. We originally were November but were able to score an October date. Average is 80 days from P4, but you can typically snake an earlier date if you watch the website like a hawk.

We just sent the checklist.

dry.png INSANE , I cant understand why they take things too slow. I can see that you were also January Filers ! ..

How did you do to change it to October instead of November !?

You take whatever interview you can get on the CSC site, then you simply refresh the main page which will tell you how many days until the next available interview. If the number of days is sooner than your current one, you switch to it. If not, you do not click on the Reschedule link, or you'll lose your current interview date.
