K1 & K2 Questions

I've tried searching and I believe I know the answer but want to be 100% sure. Visa process isnt something I want to mess up.

I am about to file a K1 for my fiance, she has a 4 year old son that we will be bringing with her. Other than listing his name on the I129F is there anything else we need to do right now for the K2?

We would like him to come with her when she comes, from what I've read it seems like once her NOA2 is approved she can then schedule both interviews and do the K2 at that time. Am I missing anything?

Is there an extra fee for starting the K2?

I know the medical and visa fee will be paid for both.

Last question that I can't seem to find. Which service center will our application go to since I'm in Louisville, KY?

Since the K2 is a derivative visa, you already identified what you need to do at the outset, write his name on the I-129F form.

Since he will be coming at the same time, both interviews will take place at the same time.

There is no way to know which service center your petition (you are submitting a petition, not an application) is being sent to until you are informed of which one it was sent to.

Your concern is quite understandable. There is a dearth of information about the K-1 derivative visa process. The Department of State (DOS) FAQs give a good overview of what you have to do to get the K-2 ball rolling. The forms, fees, medical, interview, etc. at the consulate/embassy phase is the time when there is some action necessary for the K-2, and is described adequately in the DOS FAQs. That is not surprising since that portion of the K-1/-2 visa process is handled by the DOS. When you get to the consulate/embassy interview, be sure to check for specific K-2 requirements that are unique to that consulate/embassy, they can have subtle differences.

Additionally, there is some very good K-2 information available on this site. All is available through the site's Google custom search function.

Good luck.

Yes, another visa fee and another medical.

Phil (Lockport, near Chicago) and Alla (Lobnya, near Moscow)

As of Dec 7, 2009, now Zero miles apart (literally)!
