Nervous about having a co-sponsor

My fiance just set his interview date for September 19th. While he is getting ready over there I am getting all of the info i need ready to send to him, I would be ready to send it to him tomorrow but while i was filling in my income I started to get worried.

I am a 22 year old student working at starbucks right now. As you can imagin my income isn't sky high. However I am going to get a second job here soon and my fiance is getting a job when he comes over here and he is obviously bringing money with him. So while I am confident we are able to support ourselves I am not sure how immigration is going to feel about it.

WE have thought about a co-sponsor but believe it or not I am sure I dont have one over here...lets just say my family isnt very supportive, though we have been dating for three years. My fiance has even thought about putting down his father as a co- sponsor but Im not even sure if that is allowed.

Does anyone know how strict they are with income?

Has anyone had any experience with the interview and had trouble with that part?

Thanks!

What embassy is the interview at?

Most countries allow joint-sponsorship, some don't. The joint-sponsor must be over 18, a US citizen and living in the US.

These are the poverty guidelines: http://www.uscis.gov/files/form/i-864p.pdf

His interview is in the Czech Republic

As far as I know, they'll take a joint-sponsor. If you want to go that way, you'll need to find an American in the US who makes enough money to cover themselves, their household plus your fiancé (then look on the poverty link above at the 125% value to see how much they need). Your fiancé's dad (who I assume is also in the Czech Republic and not American) would not qualify as a joint sponsor.

If you want to sponsor yourself, and assuming you have no other dependants, you'll need to be making $19387 per annum. Some embassies are less strict and may take the 100% value instead of the 125% value listed.

Which ever way you go, the person doing the financial sponsorship should complete the I-134, and also include evidence of their income (via tax returns, W2s, paystubs, employment letter).

So i was also wondering if my roomate could be my co-sponsor
..there is a twist though

So doesnt work and recently had a baby but her husband works in Afghanastan on a contracting job...

So could I put my roommate down as the sponsor or her husband? and if i do, do they just fill out the i-134 or do they also have to give proof on income and a letter from their employer?

If she doesn't work, I would not put her down as a co-sponsor.

If he's working as a contractor overseas, I'd probably prepare to submit a lot of documentation proving his income and ability to co-sponsor.

It can be any USC or LPR residing in the US. However, they have to meet the income requirement for their household size plus the foreign fiance(e). She does not qualify. If her husband is willing, he needs to fill out an I-134 and provide most recent tax transcript and proof of income. Recent pay stubs work well for that. A letter from employer is not a requirement. He will have to mail you the I-134, as it needs to have an original signature. His household size is 4: himself, his wife, his child plus your fiance. http://www.uscis.gov/files/form/i-864p.pdf
