DOS Rolls Out DS-260 Online Immigrant Visa Application to Most Applicants

The Department of State (“DOS”) has reported that they are transitioning to an online immigrant visa application as of September 3, 2013. Immigrant visa applicants who are processing their immigrant visas (green cards) through the National Visa Center (NVC)/U.S. Consulate will now need to complete the DS-260 form online (Application for Immigrant Visa and Alien Registration). Similarly, the Form DS-261 (Choice of Address and Agent) form will be online as well.

The online DS-260 form was, until now, used only for immigrant visa applicants for a few selected consulates. With the upcoming transition, after September 3, 2013, DOS will require most immigrant visa applicants to complete the DS-260 form online (as opposed to the paper DS-230 form). Only Diversity Visa and Cuban Family Reunification Parole applicants will continue to use the paper forms (DS-230). It is important to note that nonimmigrant visa applicants (B-1, H-1B, L-1, etc.) should still continue to use the DS-160 electronic application.

NVC Pending Cases

For those immigrant visa applicants who have a case pending with NVC already, NVC may instruct some applicants who previously submitted Form DS-230 on paper to submit Form DS-260 online.

Conclusion

We welcome DOS’s rollout of the DS-260 system to all applicants. Even though the DS-260 application form is somewhat more complex to complete than the DS-230 paper form, it should eliminate the amount of paperwork, data entry mistakes and delays which are often associated with processing paper DS-230 forms. am little confuse as i am not further in the process,is this for K1 or CR1/IR1 visas?

Looking at some of the press releases looks to be both I'm a CR/IR I have a case number and IIN but have not been invoiced so the 3rd is tomorrow so I'm going to get on the phone and see what process there going to put me in

Question: since we submit the ds-230 checklist last august 21and waiting for reviewed again do we still need to fill up the form ds-260 online? Or just wait to the form ds-230 to be reviewed? "Thanks"

as with everything else at the nvc, I would wait. looking at your signature line you should receive case complete or a checklist any day now

I received my invoice emails today and yes DS-261 was requested to do online

We did the choice of agent last week before the new law. Emailed and snail mail. For nothing. NVC told me that how could I have done that when they have not even requested it yet. LOL. So I did it again via the DOS website and it is actually easier. This new law might speed things up. The problem is employees have to review everything and that is where the process slows down.

You, the foreign-citizen fiancé(e), (and eligible children applying for K-2 visas) will be required to bring the following forms and documents to the visa interview:

Two (2) Nonimmigrant Visa Applications, Form DS-156 (prepared in duplicate). NOTE: K-1/K-2 visa applicants should not fill in Form DS-160, Online Nonimmigrant Visa Application

One (1) Nonimmigrant Fiancé(e) Visa Application, Form DS-156K

One (1) Application For Immigrant Visa and Alien Registration, Form DS-230, Part I (You are not required to complete Part II.)

K Visa applicants applying at U.S. Consulate General Montreal and U.S. Consulate General Ciudad Juarez have different application form requirements. Review information on the U.S. Consulate General Montreal or U.S. Consulate General Ciudad Juarez website to learn which forms you must complete.

So i am guessing that this does not apply to k-1s?

It came to me and her so we got the choice of agent DS-261 complete and I set up the online payment for the AOS waiting for it to change to paid with the online you can't proceed until the steps are done now if they can figure out how to put the I-864 online no paper would have to be sent I'm sure it's coming but will take years

I think we don't need to submit the online form, we are almost same timeline . waiting for the case complete.

we need to wait to reviewed. I call to day waiting time is 20 days. hope it will be case complete by SEPT 16 or 20.

Hope we can get an OCTOBER review -)

Thank you for the information. I didn't get the email, but when I clicked on the link on the first post, signed in, there was DS-261 waiting. I submitted the form online. When I sign in, it also has AOS and IV fees listed. Next to AOS, it says , "not Paid" and next to it has link which says, "Pay" when I click on it, it asks me to log in again. When I log in again, it keeps going into the loop of asking me to log in. Not sure what's going on.

Maybe it's too early to pay. I thought browser was an issue. I switched to IE as well from Firefox. It didn't work. Then, I thought work computer was blocking it so I used my laptop and had the same issue. Will try back in a few hours.
