As long as your greencard is not expired when u return back to US, there would be no problem. With the biometrics question, usually it takes 3-4 weeks before you will be get the biometrics appointment but it depends on your state. Just wondering are u a k1 visa? if your currently holding a 2 years green card and your applying already for a removal of condition which is the 10 years gc, the receipt of your application would include the extension for another year for your 2 years gc..so you don't need to worry about the expiration of your gc...

You are taking risk. At least arrange with someone here to collect your mail and open the NOA1 letter and send you a soft copy. Without that you may have issues getting on a plane at your point of return to US.

USA

01/08/13 - Approved and GC is order for production on 1/8/14

09/12/13 - Case transferred to CSC. NOA2 received on 09/18/13

08/30/13 - Biometrics Done - No walk ins allowed at this LSC (received on 8/16/13).

08/05/13 - NOA1 (received on 08/10/13)

08/01/13 - Mailed I-751 (received on 8/2/13 - check cashed on 8/5/13)

12/28/11 - Received SSN (applied on 12/20/11, as we didn't get based on DS-230 options)
11/28/11 - Received Green Card (Expires on 10/30/13) - Welcome Letter on 11/17/11
10/30/11 - POE - Houston, TX

Chennai Consulate (40 days)
10/28/11 - Received Visa papers and Passport at VFS
10/25/11 - Interview Cleared Successfully (Spouse was not allowed in)

NVC: (90 days from NOA2 to Consulate)
08/31/11 - Case Completed (Interview 10/25/11) - Received at Chennai on 09/19/11
07/22/11 - NVC Case Number

USCIS: (92 days)

6/21/11 - NOA2 (NOA1 on 3/25/11) - took a month to get to NVC

What is being said is that when you file to remove your conditions (ROC), you will receive a letter (NOA1) that extends your green card's expiration date out one year while the ROC is being processed. You will need that letter along with your green card until you get your 10 yearr green card. If you try to re-enter with an expired green card that will be a problem for you. If you have an expired green card along with the NOA1 letter extending out the expiration date, that will be fine.

http://www.uscis.gov/dateCalculator.html USCIS Calculator, Don't travel with filing your renewal / ROC and get a extension letter. Also I am sure they sent you a letter to renew already so this should not be a surprise.

In Arizona its hot hot hot.
