What I don't get is why K-1s are blazing through with their NOA2s, but the rest of us aren't. Do you have any hunch or insight as to why this is? It infuriates me. They wait half a month, if that. It's pathetic.

Seconding Kaylara's comment. That's the theory I've seen most frequently and which, I think, is most likely. Spousal filers are guaranteed a green card after visa approval while fiancé filers are not, so since CR1/IR1s are approved to become residents, there may be some additional burden to the background checks or process in general.

K1's are a non-immigrant visa. IR1/CR1 are an immigrant visa. At least that is how it was explained to me.

Yeah, I get all of that. But it takes 8-9 times the time in extra processing and background checks for I-130s??? Seems a little high to me and I think it's way out of whack.

Completely agreed. Worth remembering too that the K1s had their own backlog before last summer, and what we see now is the result of the action uscis took to correct it. They seem incapable of processing both petition types efficiently.

Yeah, everyone says "the K-1s had their backlog and the USCIS fixed it". But hey, where's the fixing of our backlog?? Cause I don't see one and this has been going on how long? 7 or 8 months? Doesn't seem to matter when it comes to us, but the K-1s, oh boy, they're God's gift. It's just so upsetting. I'm not mad at you, just asking rhetorical questions and letting off steam. Sorry.

I have just seen that apparently i need to provide a police certificate for any country i have live in for more than 12 months, over an above my UK one. As i live in HK for 14 months i guess i need to get this one also?

Does anyone know this to be correct?

Yes, that's correct if you were over the age of 16 when you lived there.

Actually i am 11 days off, my HK work visa started 25th June and i was made redundant on the 14th June, so thats less than a year.... If they see it this way lol

lol, they lack that sort of generosity I think. The DS-260 only asks for the month and year when you list your residency, if you have to list June-June I'd definitely recommend getting the HK cert as well.

I had a feeling that would be the case, it's such a pain getting one for HK if you are not there.

Plus the UK now charges £70 for finger prints and i first need a letter from the embassy!

Any ideas how I get a letter from the embassy (with my name specifically noted) that I need this check?

It seems like you use the checklist from NVC rather than requesting a letter from the embassy, take a look here: http://hongkong.usconsulate.gov/iv_polclear.html. Might be worth clarifying with someone in the regional forum just to be sure.

Yep, just more delays..... however it says..

A photocopy (for each applicant) of the letter from NVC which contains his/her name and the checklist of documents necessary for obtaining a visa (the one that references the need for police certificates);

I am not sure, as i have not got it yet, but does the NVC send you a letter with these details on anyway, and thus i can just use this?

Yes, when you get to NVC stage they'll send you instructions listing the documentation you have to provide with your application. So you'll use that checklist of documentation specifying the police cert to get your CNCC, which will be sent right to London.
