Scheduling interview at embassy for K-1 Visa

Dear VJ members,

I have a quick question for your expertise regarding scheduling the interview for my fiancee's K-1 Visa application.

Our current status is that NVC shipped the package to the U.S. Embassy in Athens, Greece on July 22nd.

The USCIS office in Athens insists on communicating via email, though I must admit they're quite punctual about getting back to me.

I just wrote USCIS-Athens an email inquiring about the possible reception of the petition. My understanding is that, as soon as they receive

the petition, they will send her a package with a checklist of items and paperwork that must be collected (we've already begun working on all of this).

She then sends the completed paperwork back to them and they schedule an interview for her.

However, in a previous post I made here, some friend indicated that if you show the embassy the NVC notice of approval you can gain significant

time in scheduling the interview. This was at least the case for Manila, Philippines where his fiancee was from. Supposedly, I needed an email

from NVC. I actually wrote them but never heard back from them and have only been able to communicate w/ them by phone.

Could anybody clarify the above for me ?

Also, should I be expecting anything at my US address ? I'm in Greece visiting right now (until 8/14) and had my mail forwarded to a friend which

caused a delay in their sending the NOA2. 3 weeks ago I contacted USCIS to use my friend's address but so far they've only sent him an update

on the change of address. No NOA2 ...

Any wisdom you might have would be much appreciated !

Thanks for the heads-up on your case my friend,

I guess we're both in the same boat so I'll keep my fingers crossed for both of us. Hang in there !

You're at the end of a long journey !

If anyone else has any clarifications w/r to my questions I'd be more thankful.

Cheers !

*** Thread moved from K-1 Process forum to the Embassy/Consulate forum -- OP is at that stage. ***

(Organizer hat off)

The reference to "USCIS-Athens" is confusing. If you're talking about the U.S. Embassy in Athens, the embassies and consulates are all under the Department of State.

Also, processes and procedures at Manila have zero to do with the rest of the world. Scheduling will vary by consulate/embassy. Go atop any VJ page, click the links for "Embassy Info" and "Reviews: Embassy," and get insights into what applies to your situation.

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

Gotcha T-bone,

I apologize for the misleading reference but I'm totally green to this procedure. I really appreciate your clarification.

Oddly enough, the embassy just wrote me back that they sent her a package with instructions yesterday so we should

receive it today or tomorrow. I might come back with some more questions.

Now, if only my damn NOA2 arrived at some point :(

A very big thank you again !

Pete
