Received interview date...wait for green card after?

I received my interview date today, for Fri, Sept 13. I've been reading that most people wait in Montreal after the interview, as it takes 2 business days for the green card to be ready.

Is this recommended or would be ok to come home to Vancouver and just receive it via courier? If so, how long will that take?

You have to sign up for Loomis. There is no question about that. You will not get into the embassy without the Loomis paper. You can stay and get your visa at the Dorval location (it normally only takes 2 days, but what if it takes a week? or two?) Or you can get it sent to the Loomis location nearest you. I had it the next day and so have several others. It seems to take at most 2 weeks. There is no way to know how long it will take though.

You must read different reviews than I,lol There is no gaurantee how fast the Consulate will release your visa paperwork. May not be until Monday, Tuesday..................

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

The people who were waiting in Montreal were doing so as they were just continuing on their travels south and had it delivered to a Loomis location in Montreal.

Just to be perfectly clear though. You are only receiving your passport with your CR-1 Visa in it, not your Green Card.

That will come some time after POE and you pay the Immigrant Fee. I POE’d on the 14th and am still waiting for my Green Card & SSN to arrive.

Yes, sorry, that's what I meant...my Visa. I ended up booking a flight home for the evening after my interview. I requested to have the Visa sent to Burnaby, so I can just pick up. I hope it's quick to get there after the interview.

there is a new immigrant fee of $165 you have to pay for the green card to be produced now. Only applicable to those who will have green cards upon arriving in the USA (not to AOS or K1.) You can pay it up to a year after you POE, but it's advisable to pay it before you go so the USCIS will hopefully start working on your green card asap. Only took 1 month to get my green card after POE!

They're fancy now too! Big electronic strip on the back will all your data in it, you can see the holographic image. My husband asked me, do you have to carry it, I told him, legally yes.

It's been some time since I've lost my entire wallet and I've never lost a purse. (*knock on wood*) I have lost just my DL or bank card but those I routinely take out and just put back in a pocket. Thankfully I never go out to the bar anymore so I don't have to do that! :D
