Expired Visa in Passport vs Green Card

My wife entered the U.S. in March of this year. Since we had been married longer than two years prior to her entering the United States, she now has a green card valid for ten years.

My question is this, will it matter when the U.S. visa that was placed in her passport expires? For example, if we were to return to Thailand for vacation sometime after the passport visa expires, will she still be able to get back into the U.S. by using her green card, or do we need to renew the visa in her passport?

Also, regarding traveling, we were thinking of taking a cruise, and a passport is needed to do so. Obviously I'll have my U.S. passport, but would she just take her Thai passport accompanied by her green card?

On a side note, one would think the government would send this type of information out with the green card, but no such information came with the card.

The immigration visa is a single entry visa so it no longer matters.

The green card and your wife's Thai passport is all she needs to enter the US. She does not need a visa for the US when she has a green card.

For the cruise, make sure that your wife meets all the necessary visa requirements for a Thai citizen with a green card. Ask your cruise agent. Those foreign countries may not let her in without the proper visas.

On your side note, there's no way the US government can give all the relevant information.

A Thai citizen with a green card will be treated differently from a German citizen with a green card when visiting Europe.

With over 170 countries with their own constantly changing laws, it's impossible to provide a guide to cover 170 nationalities with different visa requirements.

Everything above is correct except for the visa being single entry. The OP is IR-1/CR-1. Those visas are actually multiple entry and act as a green card for 1 year or until the green card arrives.

The visa in her passport was her temporary green card. The actual green card is her "green card."

Thanks for the answers. Good point about going to a country other than the one of her nationality or the U.S. as a cruise passenger...will have to check on that depending on where we go.
