Hi everybody,

My husband got his CR-1 visa a month ago and came to the US last week. I was wondering if anyone knew whether he can start working straight away or whether he needs to file the i-765 form first to get employment authorization.

Thanks in advance!

Once your husband's CR-1 was used to enter the US, it was stamped as a one-year temporary I-551 green card. He can use this to prove he is work authorized in the US. He does not file I-765 because he is already authorized to work based on the I-551 stamp on his visa.

He will also need a SSN.

LPR = Legal Permanent Resident = green card holder
