Interview went really smoothly!

They didn't even ask to see any of my evidence (apart from the financial stuff)

I had everything they asked for and answered all their questions confidently and then the magic words were spoken

"Ok Joanne I see no problems here, I'm glad to tell you your visa has been approved, congratulations!"

WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!

Hey, I'm looking at interviewing soon (in Canada though). Let me ask you something: Did they ask you to see financial evidence of your being able to support yourself, or did they look for an Affadavit of support? I ask because I have more than enough money to support myself for like, a looooong time.

Hey, I'm looking at interviewing soon (in Canada though). Let me ask you something: Did they ask you to see financial evidence of your being able to support yourself, or did they look for an Affadavit of support? I ask because I have more than enough money to support myself for like, a looooong time.

They asked for my Affidavit (in the first interview) and then they asked "do you have any supporting documentation to use as evidence?" so I gave in the tax returns, bank statements, pay slips and the letter from my Co-sponsor's workplace. They didn't want to see any of my fiance's stuff cause he doesn't earn enough money (he's still in college with just a little part-time job on the side), they just wanted the Co-sponsor's stuff. I'd brought evidence with me for both so I was well prepared for that.

And then in the second part of the interview, the officer asked "how do you plan on supporting yourself whilst in the USA", so I answered "well I have my own savings to the total of just over £5,000 and Adam's mum has agreed to be my co-sponsor and provide me with living space and other essential things until me and Adam are able to find our own place and support ourselves"

It's best to have all the right evidence so that they can't question you, bring tax returns, IRS forms, bank statements, a letter from the bank, pay slips and letters from the sponsor's workplace stating annual income, job position, how long they have worked there & what their hours are.

Think of it as a court case almost- make your case bulletproof by having enough evidence to support your statements at the time of the interview.

Take a look at the "Guides" section, those are really helpful.

Or tell me specifically at what stage you are right now and what it is exactly that you don't understand, I'll see if I can help ya smile.png

(What do you have already? Do you have the letter from the Embassy telling you the forms you need to send in yet?)

Congratulations! I'm just beginning this process so it's nice to read about someone who made it to the other side! :) The only thing I'm worried about at the moment is the affidavit because, like in your situation, I am a college student and I don't make enough. While my mom will be supporting us for the time being, I don't know how comfortable she'll be giving away all that documentation and letting him bring it to another country with so much personal information on it...

Make sure you make copies of all the documentation. So before she sends them, she'll have copies to refer to. She needs to understand that the US Embassy respects your personal details and doesn't intend to interfere with them whatsoever, they only give them a quick glance to make sure they support your statements and that's all they need. If anything does happen she is free to report it.

This personal information is essential to you being approved for a visa so that's something you need to explain to her. Make sure also that you keep all of this stuff safe in a folder/filing cabinet or something so it can't get lost and is well protected whilst it's in your hands.

I understand how your Mom feels. I don't share financial info with anybody, even my grown kids. And I especially wouldn't send it off to an individual overseas that I barely know. I don't know anything about Sydney, but London will accept the affidavit of support and documentation directly from the joint sponsor, so the beneficiary never sees it or has the opportunity to be careless with it. Of course it should be clearly marked to show names and case numbers so it gets in the proper file. That way it goes straight from Mom to the US government. You might want to look into that as a layer of security.
