I am USC and the only sponsor( considering no joint sponsors). 2011 i had started working toward the end of the year had very minimal on taxes . 2012 part time work plus student. 2013 beginning of year i was hired full time with over 30000 a year permanent city job . My husband and i are the only members of household, no dependnts.

Will i need prior 3 year ? is it ok to get last two year even if it is little to show and include all current pay stubs and employment letter from employer to prove current status?

Thanks.

You are only required to show most current tax filings. But I would highly suggest a coverletter to explain why you were under the poverty guidelines. You just started working so your work history is shaky. I would look for a co-sponsor and have one ready in case you need.

You only need to show the last year's tax filing. But you are required to have filed or have a good reason to have not filed the last 3 years. Also they look more at CURRENT income than past income.

You're not even at the NVC stage yet so when you get there, if you've been employed longer than 6 months, include those pay stubs as proof of current employment along with a letter from your employer stating what your yearly income would be.

As noted above, be ready to have all available tax returns (did you file married for 2012?) and all available pay stubs for when the NVC ask for them.

Also a letter to explain why the levels were low - you will need a letter of employment from your employer stating your name/hire date/current salary also.

This is what I had and gave to the NVC.

At time of interview - I got an updated letter of employment and printed out 6 months of pay stubs and took the tax return transcript for 2012 showing our joint filing.

Any other Pakistan embassy / interview related questions you have, do send a pm - no problems, my wife and I will try to answer them!

good luck with your case!

I think a few other things are taken into consideration. Remember, the consulate has the final say even if your documents make it past NVC as being acceptable, the consulate could require you to get a joint sponsor. While they look at the current year's income, nothing says more about not having the potential to be a public charge as longevity in a job.

As dwheels76 suggested, write a letter about why there's been a disparity in income between the years and make sure that there's a letter of employment from the employer stating the hire date and the current rate of pay.

Lets all keep in mind that they look at total assets too if income does not qualify properly.

As long as you remember to include them and they are the appropriate kind of assets. Some aren't acceptable. Straight cash in the bank is obviously best and always accepted. But you cannot use the house you're living in and 401k are rarely acceptable because they have so many issues with liquidation. Even with assets you have to have minimum 3x the difference between income and assets. Having just under 60k in the bank or liquidable assets is often a lot harder for people to have than a $10/hr job to make the minimum for 2 people. People who make $10/hr or less aren't likely to have the different in cash either unless they're retired or do a lot of investment type things.

difference not different***

So, as another scenario, what if a couple has say $200,000 cash and limited income? I had this question posed to me last week.

Then you'll probably be fine.

But, this isn't your thread to hijack so if you'd like to start another thread with more questions, you're more than welcome to.

OP- I don't see why you won't be okay come time for AoS.

Includes your last 3 paystubs.

They show that you're a good law abiding tax filing citizen.

Current income is what is really looked at, so by the time it's time for that, you'll have worked there for over 6 months.

Get a nice letter from your employer, include some paystubs.

You probably have nothing to worry about.

SURE someone could deny you... but someone could really deny anyone just because they feel like it.

I only mentioned because someone recently got put into AP for this exact scenario. They made it through NVC with a current appropriate income, but at the consulate, were told they need to have a joint sponsor. So better safe than sorry and at least try to line someone up if there's any question...
