Hey guys, I havent been a great VJ member.. I actually really havent been around much since my move to the US almost 2 years ago...

Hubby and I are getting ready to file our RoC, and we had some questions about the supporting documents mostly. we are in the process of printing off our bank statements and want to have them sorted/separated by month. Is it ok to staple each month separately to group them? I wasnt sure if staples are ok? Also here is a list of what we are including, if anyone could tell me if we should include anything else in our packet. Thanks!

copy of my green card

copy of lease
joint bank statements
state and federal tax returns
insurance policies showing beneficiaries
utility/loans in both our names
affidavits (at least 2)
completed uscis form
cheque
thanks again!

Don't use staples...USCIS hates them. There is a way to organize them on the USCIS website. Paper punch two holes at the top or use snap paperclips. Great tip I learned from a lawyer is to highlight my husband and my name along with our address and the dates for transactions throughout our marriage? Makes it easier for the IO. Keep it simple. Give them what they ask for. Don't overdo it. I got my approval without an interview and the dreaded RFE. Don't know it it helped but I believe it did. Your packet sounds to be basically what I had in mine. Good luck!

I have read of others using staples to keep a few things that needed to stay together grouped and had no problems. I did the same, so we shall see.

Make sure your statements and other evidence cover the entire 2 years of your marriage. Other things to use: copies of your licenses/IDs showing same address, family cell plan, joint credit card statements, wills, power of attorney, and anything else you might think of that shows co-mingling and shared residence.

In my state, Minnesota law requires that you apply for a new driver's license within 30 days of changing your address.

Could you get a new driver's license with updated address in your state?

Done with K1, AOS and ROC

Please get you address changed ASAP. This is definitely seen as a sign of cohabitation. Don't limit your evidence to two years. Give them documents spanning your entire marriage. Not a lot just stuff evidence that place you and your husband in the same household at different time periods.

I sent in:

four bank statements for our account at different addresses where we lived (which is only two) and

a copy of our license at our old and new address and highlighted it.

Copy of 4 Cards ( the actual cards) Highlighted the matching numbers

Electricity in my name

Cable in his

Miscellaneous mail addresses to us at our old and new address

Copy of life insurance for him

2011 tax transcripts - didn't get 2012 as yet and we didn't file 2010 together also didn't get an RFE for that.

Lease in both our names

One photograph of us

One affidavit

Don't let anyone fool you presentation is the key and the IO doesn't want to come to work and have to figure out if your marriage is a fraud and also organizing your documents well.

Mark both the envelope and the cover letter as to the nature of the submission. Example: ORIGINAL SUBMISSION - BRIEF FOR AN APPEAL - RESPONSE TO REQUEST FOR ADDITIONAL INFORMATION - etc.

Use the appropriate mailing address and mark both the envelope and the cover letter as to the form type. Example: I-129; I-130; I-690; I-698, etc.

Provide both the receipt notice number and the A-Number as an identifier, if they are available.

If the packet is being resubmitted in response to a REQUEST FOR ADDITIONAL EVIDENCE (RFE), please place the notice requesting the additional evidence/information on the top of the packet. Also, please use the special mailing envelope provided.

If evidence is being submitted in support of a previously filed appeal or motion, a cover letter stating "BRIEF FOR APPEAL", etc., should be placed on top of the packet.

In preparing your packet, please take note of the following:

Do not use binders or folders that cannot be easily disassembled.

Use ACCO fasteners to hold together thick or bulky applications or petitions. Two-hole punching the top of the material for easy placement in the file is appreciated.

The use of tabs assist in locating items listed as attachments. The tabs should be placed on the bottom and not the side for ease in filing.

Avoid using heavy-duty staples; instead use ACCO fasteners or heavy clips.

Avoid submitting originals unless specifically required. Avoid submitting oversized documentation when possible.

If you are sending more than one case in an envelope, clearly separate the cases by rubber band or clip fasteners.

I disagree. Presentation is not the key, evidence is. People often just place one big clip over their entire stack of documentation and are approved without RFE. Yes, you should use a cover letter and place your documents in the same order as listed on the cover letter so items are easy to locate in your stack of papers. However, they take your paperwork and place it inside their own folders in the order they want them in anyway.
