ROI ET: Residents are celebrating a story of Cinderella-like proportions: a wealthy Canadian man has married a Roi Et woman who was born to a farmer family, and provided her with a handsome dowry to boot.

Glen Redekop, a 54-year-old executive at Chevron Thailand and the owner of a petroleum company in Ireland, was in a relationship with Sunantha Singhathawat, 37, for nine years before making his marriage proposal.

Redekop and Sunantha met in a Bangkok restaurant where Sunantha was working as a waitress. After agreeing to see each other, Redekop asked Sunantha to stop her waiting job and focus her attention on her education.

With Redekop’s funding, Sunantha has spent the past nine years pursuing bachelor and master degrees. She is now at work on a PhD.

I wish I owned a liquor store in Roi Et.

5555. I think you would have to own one of the big box stores. When I was there back in April and did the thai ceremony there the food and alcohol was bought at Marko and Tesco Lotus. Also went to 2 funerals there and I think the food and alcohol was bought from the same places. Those places were busy both before, during, and after songkran. Or at least the ones I went to in Si Sasket.

Coincidence?

40 million baht gold reported missing from a gold shop in Ubon Ratchathani

UBON RATCHATHANI, 5 June 2013 (NNT) - Police were called in to investigate the missing of 40-million-baht ornamental gold from a gold shop in Warin Chamrap district, Ubon Ratchathani.

Pol. Col. Songsak Sibutta (ทรงศักดิ์ ศรีบุตตะ), chief of the Warin Chamrap Police Station said that the owner of Yaowarat Gold Shop in Warin Chamrap told the police that a number of ornamental gold weighing approximately 1,500 baht with a value of 40 million baht went missing from the shop’s safe.

In the preliminary inspections of the scene, the police found no traces of force opening at any point in the shop.

They suspected that the thief might have been one of the customers who had frequented the shop and known the password of the safe.

Nevertheless, further investigations will be conducted to find the suspect responsible for the missing gold.
