We sent our application in February and just got our NOA2 this week, yay! Now I am starting to think more about the wedding and I need advice from people who know more than me. For a variety of reasons we don't want to live together until we have our religious ceremony, but I'd really love to have a summer wedding. At this point it looks like he'll be coming here in autumn so we'd have to do the civil ceremony by the end of the year towards wintertime. Is it true that they check up on you to make sure you're living together after the ceremony and everything? Should I give up on my dreams of being a summer bride?

Schedule the interview for a few months from now instead of now. Add the 6 months that the fiance has upon issuance to arrive to the US and another 90 days to marry once in the US, I think you can probably extend this a year until next summer before you have to get married.

You can ask the consulate to extend your I-129F petition. They will usually do so for up to a year. Then you can marry next summer instead.

This is what I plan on doing but I am not sure if that will work.

Planning on taking pre wedding photos, get the marriage certificate signed within 90 days on entrance and held the wedding ceremony in summer!

Invite friends and families :)

Just my two-pennyworth. If you marry and then don't live together, it may be difficult to go for AOS. That is because you may not be able to show co-mingling of finances. They would expect to see you with a lease in joint names. Or a property in joint names. Lots of things in joint names. And if you end up getting a second interview, they will start asking you questions that you would only know the answer to if you lived together.

However, as mentioned above, you have 6 months to come to the US once your visa is granted and then you have to marry within 90 days.

BTW - just my opinion. Isn't it more important to be married to your beloved rather than the month in which you marry? There is no guarantee of weather whatever time of year you marry (unless you plan to marry in the desert). I will be getting married next month (God willing) but the dress I bought is going to be really heavy for the time of year as I expected to get married earlier this year!

It is my understanding that a K-1 visa will be issued with an expiration date that is set for 6 months after the date of the medical exam not from the date of issue of the visa. So, if there is a significant difference between the date of the medical and the date of issue of the visa then one won't have a complete 6 months to enter the United States.

6 months from the issuance of the visa, according to the US DOS website

It is supposed to be from the date of issuance, but many have found this date to be that of the medical exam when they get the visa.

You will note that the statement is:

With your visa, you can apply for a single admission at a U.S. port of entry within the validity of the visa, which will be a maximum of 6 months from the date of issuance.

Which means that one may find that the validity of one's visa may be less than 6 months from the date of issuance.

It is supposed to be from the date of issuance, but many have found this date to be that of the medical exam when they get the visa.

It's a 50/50 chance for someone who entered on the K-1 being called for an AOS interview. You don't have to include proof of co-mingled finances, etc. as part of the AOS application process. However, if a couple is interviewed, then yes, it would definitely be ideal to bring along any proof of co-mingling/proof of a bona fide marriage. That's even more critical for the ROC stage.

I would not count on not being interviewed and your dates? Up in the air. Unfortunately we are on their schedule VS ours, good luck. Portland? rain may be in your forecast. Lots of good restaurant / bars to hang out in downtown. I like Jake's.

In Arizona its hot hot hot.
