Get a job and stop soliciting people here. This is against the rules. You have to be absolutely crazy to stick your neck out for someone you don't even know. Immigration is a priviledge.

Even though you are correct, can you try to have a little compassion here? I'm sure we can all find more diplomatic ways to send a message...

Really? What country have you been living in? US? New grads the past few years ( since the economic global recession) always have had a hard time to find jobs suited to their qualifications. Not many companies hire newbies. And this is in STEM. I can't imagine what the market is like for someone with an Arts degree or something general like philosophy. The market just recently started swinging upwards. I know ALOT of MBAs with experience who were jobless until recently. Or underemployed. Heck when I graduated many of my friends with PhDs didn't get jobs until a good 4 months after graduation. This was after spending months interviewing. This was 2007 when the market started bloating and starting to burst.

There is nothing "amiss" about his situation. It's a reality. But I do think this couple rushed to the interview room too soon.

Well, you're absolutely right. Of course he have been looking for a good job for months, but nothing yet. I guess when you're so desperate to get something, your mind block you up. I don't know, it's just a theory. As I mentioned before, we did this without any legal help, now I clearly see. Anyways, God will provide. Take care people.

I'd like to create a world with you, where flag, nation, borders, race or destiny would have the same meaning to us.

yup, assets can be used.

for a house, must get appraisal from a licensed appraiser.

if any mortgage, subtract mortgage from appraisal price.

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !

Assets can be used with certain restrictions. They must met the 3X or 5X rule (not sure which). So if his income was $5.000 short the assets would have to be 3X 5000 or 5X 5000 (someone help me here). Working two jobs is certainly an option also. For a while between hubby and me we had five part-time jobs. Recent grads are having a hard time but somehow the income or a co-sponsor has to be there.

The US government wants to do everything it can to prevent an immigrant from becoming a burden on the country and also to ensure the immigrant has a certain quality of life here. Imagine if you came and your spouse did not make much, you would always worry about how to buy food, coud you pay the rent, what if you need to go to the doctor, all those things.

Actually savings account, bonds any liquid assets will work. The more you can show you will have access for the next 12 months of these accounts, the stronger your case. Also it has to be 5 times the difference between what he makes and the government guidelines. So like belinda says, if he was $5,000 short of the guidelines, then you need to show that you have 25,000.
