Nigeria Document Shipping Question

Nromally I would use USPS but this is an important one page document, a bill of lading (3 pages at most) for a vehicle that I shipped to Lagos.

Which is ceaper, FedEX, DHL or others.

I am assuming the process is the sameas USPS, you write the phone number of the recipient on the outside of the envelope and they call that person.

Thanks.

Couldn't you scan and email the documents? ,If not then EMS with USPS is cheaper and you can track.Ships within 3-5 days.I sent package to hubby abt 2 months ago,abt 15 Lbs,cost was abt. $150 USD and documents were included. I also Googled Nipost and got mobile number.I called number and lady told me to tell hubby to call the number. She confirmed package arrived and hubby picked up after paying "Naija fee ",but still cheaper than Fedex and DHL

You bring up a very good point. I'll ask my shipper if the clearing agent can accept emailed copies.

Thanks.

You're welcome...hope it works out for you.

Out of curiousity who did you use to ship the vehicle ? Always looking for a good deal to Nigeria from the LA area.

Bill of Lading cant be scanned. I ship vehicles to Lagos regularly. Its usually 3 pages original copies must be submitted at the delivery point in Lagos. Usually I use Grilmaldi, AES is also not bad cos most times they travel in the same ship just different agents. I never had issue with USPS express mail. It takes maximum of 7 days for it to be delivered paradventure without any issue and its trackable. It used to cost $38 buts its now about $45. I hope it helps.

Shipping a car to Nigeria is actually quite easy from Los Angeles with an added benefit that Los Angeles ports only accept containers. So your pride and joy woudl be embalmed in a container on it's 2 months (yes 2 months) voyage from LA to Tin Can port Lagos. The vehicle needs ot be 1998 and above. Older cars can be shipped but it will be much hassle and will require much greasing of the palms in Lagos.

A regular car/suv is $1,500 and a container is $4,500. A container can fit up to 4 regular sized sedans, but only 3 larger sedans or suvs. So the ideal thing is to ship 4 sedans in a container for about $1,125 each. Folks this is seriously cheap and it's in a container to boot. I shipped a small car from here to Dallas and it was almost $1,000 as a comparison.

On the Nigeria end it will cost anywhere from N250,000 upwards depedning on the year of the car. Some models have a premium (9ja things).

My shipper is a Nigerian in the business and has shipped many cars for friends.

Hope this helps all.

PS: I found out that I don't really need to mail any documents as my shipper is also the clearing agent. So a win win and an additional savings and peace of mind.

I remember driving in Lagos near where they land and seeing the containers iwth a car barely visible in all the other stuff people filled the container with. Thanks , as hubby talks of sending a car

It's totally worth it to have a car at home if you have a place to store it safely and also if you go home often.

As you've seen, another thing with a container is that alongst with 4 regualr sized sedans you can also fill the empty spaces underneath the cars and inside the cars also with goods for resale. Diapers are a big business alongst with used clothings.
