You can and you must until you take the oath. After that you must apply for a US passport as you must use it to leave and reenter the country. Until that time you use your original passport.

Congratulations everyone who is getting approved.

We are still waiting to do the interview & getting really nervous with the Dyslexia issue.

Just praying that we get an understanding interview, has anyone else had it at the Fairfax VA office?

Well Today was the Day , Finally after 3 years of Adjustment of status change , then petition to get Step son here , ROC and then the big one this morning ...WOW !!! its great to finally know when we travel we dont have to apply for this Visa and that Visa ..... And I know its been said on here a million times , But thanks to all the people on this forum and the forum itself , VJ helped in many ways ...Not once did we have to use an attorney and we had a lot of stuff we had to do , considering before we even got married my wife had to get divorced from her husband in the Philippines from the USA ...Not an easy task considering the Philippines doesnt recognize divorce...but everything worked like clockwork and we are so Happy ...

Now on to the interview - Today was our interview or should I say my wifes interview ...appointment was at 7:15 .....we were there at 7am after a 2 mile drive (yes the USCIS office is that close) - Once checked in and through security we sat in the waiting room ..I guess we were all the first interviews of the day , @7:21 am they called my wife , I kissed her and wished her luck ---- The interviewer was younger and he had been in there a few minutes earlier and apparently he noticed my wife and i there cause he mentioned that in the interview to my wife

Her recall : They walked back to his office , he asked for ID , she raised her hand and swore then sat down ...The interviewer asked her if she had certified copies of divorce decrees of course she did , he asked about if I was her husband in the waiting room , asked about our kids (we dont have any together, but 3 total between our meshed family ) , he then asked her 6 questions to which she answered all correctly ...

1.Who takes over if the Pres and Vice Pres cant serve : Speaker of the House

2. When is Independence Day : July 4th

3. Name a Branch of the Government : executive

She doesnt recall the other ones at the time of me typing this .... The written test part was ; Columbus Day is celebrated in October

After that it was pretty much done ......Total time for interview 8 minutes ...Thats right 8 minutes ....We were home in less then an hour from the time we left .....

When she cam out of the interviewing offices everyone looked cause they couldnt believe how fast it went , the look on most peoples faces appeared as if they thought she may have been denied ...Heck even I wasnt sure when she came out ....But She had her paper saying "Congratulations you have passed "

So now we just wait for the Oath Date ...wahoooooooooooooo We are so happy that the light at the end of the tunnel is bright as can be now ..

Congrats!!!!

Did they mention anything about how do they schedule the Oath? Or how long does it take to get scheduled? I have my appointment Sept 9th in Las Vegas too, I didn't know if they did same day oaths.

I'll keep an eye on your guys timeline so I have an idea of how long does it take. I found this in the USCIS website, if you go to your specific field office it will give you info about their Naturalization Ceremonies, for Las Vegas it says this:

"Naturalization Ceremonies

The Las Vegas Field Office conducts Judicial Ceremonies twice per month and Administrative Ceremonies only on rare occasions. This office conducts same-day naturalizations for Judicial Ceremonies only."

Thanks so much for replying. I still havent heard back from them. It's making me feel down. what happens if I don't hear until next month? Next month on 7th it will be 90 days :(

Don't worry about that. If you go on the USCIS website that's what is says there so I'm pretty sure they gave you a generic answer. If you don't hear anything by the 90 day mark (which I'm positive you will) call them back and ask to speak to a level 2 administrator. When it comes to processing time it's not first come first serve and sometimes there's no rhyme or reason to how people get scheduled. Check out this snippet from the February filers....

MOON1982............|02/21/13|02/28/13|02/27/13|03/19/13|04/22/13|04/27/13|06/05/13|06/24/13|Tampa, FL
QQQUAKER............|02/23/13|03/04/13|03/01/13|03/12/13|03/28/13|04/11/13|07/16/13|08/15/13|Tampa, FL
ARUN+CATIE..........|02/25/13|03/01/13|03/08/13|03/21/13|03/25/13|04/18/13|05/22/13|06/06/13|Tampa, FL

....notice that all 3 were from the same office, they all filed within days of each other but their interview and oath dates vary pretty widely. Everything is unique to this process and will reflect in how fast or slow we are processed. All you can do is sit tight and hope to hear something soon and if the 90 days comes and still no interview letter, give them a call and/or involve your local congressman.

I had my interview yesterday. If I need to fly outside of the US for a big family emergency, is it okay that I use my Philippine passport or I can't?

I just came back from Mexico, due to a family emergency as well. My passport had still my unmarried last name and my GC my married last name. I did not have any problem at all.

Hope everything will go well. Take care!
