Sorry if this was answered before, I don't know too much about CR1 because we are planning on filing K1 right now. But just a hypothetical, if we filed K1 and then I visited her and got married over in her country, can we convert the K1 to CR1 without losing our place in line? Thanks to everyone in advance!

I was going to say the same thing what the person said above. You will need cancel the K-1 and then start over with the new petition for the IR-1.

We were going to do the K-1 route but we just couldn't wait. We wanted to be husband and wife so we can be together & make it official! (L)

There is no converting. If you marry while the K-1 is in process you will have to cancel it and file for a CR-1, starting from the beginning.

As others have said, there is no converting, the scenario you mention would mean going back to square one by filing a new petition. You would also have to pay the filing fee also. Furthermore, you would not be refunded the filing fee for the I-129F filing.

No waiver is possible?

September 2, 2011: AOS invoice received, OPTIN email for EP sent
September 7, 2011: Paid AOS bill (payment portal showed PAID on September 9, 2011)
September 8, 2011: OPTIN email accepted, GZO number assigned
September 10, 2011: Emailed AOS package
September 12, 2011: IV bill invoiced
September 13, 2011: Paid IV bill (payment portal showed PAID on September 14, 2011)
September 14, 2011: Emailed IV package
October 3, 2011: Emailed checklist response (checklist generated due to typo on Form DS-230)
October 6, 2011: Case complete at NVC
November 10, 2011: Interview - APPROVED!!!
December 7, 2011: POE - Sea-Tac Airport

September 17, 2013: Mailed I-751 to CSC

September 23, 2013: Received NOA1 in mail (receipt date September 19th)

October 16, 2013: Biometrics Appointment

January 28, 2014: Production of new Green Card ordered

February 3, 2014: New Green Card received; done with USCIS until fall of 2023*

December 18, 2023:  Filed I-90 to renew Green Card

December 21, 2023:  Production of new Green Card ordered - will be seeing USCIS again every 10 years for renewal

both operate independently of each other.

BUT - once an I-130 filed (chasing a CR-1 visa) the validity of an I-129F (chasing a K-1 visa) vaporizes, as neither of you are free to marry.

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !

As already answered, no conversion. Stop and restart from the beginning and no waiver.
