Passport Information Please!?

Hi Everyone!

I just completed my interview and was approved, so now I am just waiting on the Oath date.

My question is, I've read a few posts where people are getting US passports and I wondered if it was necessary? I don't mind getting one, and actually am planning to as my son travels back to London every year and I will try and do the same.

My thing is, I just renewed my UK passport which wasn't cheap

Am I better off just disregarding my UK passport and obtaining a US one once I get my naturalization certificate?

As always, any advice would be greatly appreciated.

As a US citizen, no choice but to get a US passport, but will have your place of birth on it. I don't believe the UK demands you maintain your British citizenship and requires you to also maintain a British Passport. Some countries do. This you have to check on, all in that DOS website.

Think the UK uses that Euro passport, one of our friends keeps that because she does a lot of traveling, claims for some countries better than a US passport. Never dug into this.

If you travel outside the USA you MUST use a US passport to re-enter... You can use the British one over ther, but have to use the American passport when you come back...

This. I use my Canadian passport while traveling through Canada, to enter and whatnot, and my UK passport to enter the UK and move around Europe. You'll want to use your US passport to re-enter the country. Not a lot of fun carrying both sometimes, but well worth it if you're a citizen of the UK.
