Sequester/Processing Time/Affidavit - K-1 Application

Can the person sponsoring his/her fiancé to the US get or use an affidavit from someone else? Does it have to be an affidavit of the sponsor only?

Can someone give a guesstimate of how long on average it takes for K-1 applications to be processed completely (more specifically Afghanistan)?

Will the Sequester cause significant (>3 months) delays with the process times?

The petitioner is required to submit the affidavit of support. If you do not meet the requirements then you need to get a co-sponsor. Then both of you would submit the affidavit of support.

Iam going through this stupid wait since august 2012. You can check many timeline for more info and also check out the forms for k1 visa. And you can get a co sponsor for affidavit of support which you will need rigjt after your case is approved in uscis. If you havent started yet I recommend you do it asap the I129f application. And goodluck on everything else. Email or pm me for further questions needed.

You could look at the Afghanistan portal page and go to the quick link 'Afghanistan time lines' on there.

It will show you current and former time lines of applicants. You can filter by visa type if you want to.

You can also look at Statistics by Country, Visa Type (for the last 360 days) at the Timelines statistics page.

That's all I can offer you.

Welcome to the forum.

Hard to determine if there is a significant effect of the Sequester on processing times at USCIS, since most of it's budget is fee-generated. It is my contention that the tsunami of DACA applications has inundated USCIS and brought about the virtual standstill of adjudication of all manner and types of visas. The number of applications tendered to USCIS during this "DACA-tsunami" numbered over 469,000 applications in the period between Aug 15, 2012 through March 15, 2013! There has been a recent uptick in approvals, hopefully it will continue.

Good luck.

So fill out it out anyway and they will inform us that a co-sponsor is required afterwards? And after that an affidavit of support from both parties (sponsorer + applicant)?

Thanks

I tried checking your timeline but the link is not working. I tried to send you a private message as well but can't seem to figure that one out either.

Thanks

Thanks. I was under the impression that the sequester would have a negative impact on all sponsorship applications, except I'm not sure if this is one of the departments (processing cases) where employee cutbacks would be exercised. Only notion giving me doubts is they already received cutbacks throughout the years (especially from Canadian side) and can't imagine further cutbacks.

How far in advance is the applicant informed of his/her interview?

2 weeks? 4 weeks? 2 months?

Much work is needed to prep the applicant because she speaks zero English and gets extremely uncomfortably shy when speaking before anyone - victim of severe trauma during childhood. (God, that scares me. She can get her entire case tossed out just by being nervous).

If a co-sponsor will be taking the financial responsibility can anyone confirm whether or not any financial records such as bank statements, tax returns, etc,. are still required from the person sponsoring?

Thanks for the info and link. However the link seems to be broken, or not working at the moment.

They were having maintenance on the website yesterday, so it's either back up now or will be up later.

I'd say try again and see if it works (if not now, later this week). happy.png
