Hi everyone,

I have just received the immigration visa fee bill for $380.00 from the NVC. On the second page I noticed it says "When we receive your Immigration Visa fees, we will send you the Immigration Visa Application (form DS-230 Part I) along with further instructions. Return only the original application that we send to you. Do not use downloaded computer forms". My question is why are they asking to not use computer downloaded forms? Is this new? Or should I ignore it?

Thanks in advance.

I believe they say that because they want to buy time. Even though you might need to wait for them to send you the DS-230 package because it comes with the barcode sheet that you have to return with it filled out and the biographical page of your passport. I personally sent the downloaded and typed one because handwriting everything sucks and it looks terrible (especially with my handwriting!). They accepted it no problem!

If you are your spouse's agent, then have him/her fill it out and mail it to you asap. If he/she is handling it, it doesn't hurt to have it ready so he/she can send it back to the NVC rightaway.

This is an amazing forum, thanks everybody for replying promptly. I am indeed the agent and I will hopefully have the DS-230 from my wife soon. That way I can be ready for next NVC step. Thanks again.

How do u become your spouse's agent?

My wife emailed NVC (nvcinquiry@state.gov) requesting choice of agent after DS-3032 was generated. Email seemed much easier and faster option. Make sure you put your NVC case# as the email subject. Hope this helps.

What does she say in the e-mail ? Just tells them that she pick me as her agent?.. It is kind of surprising that them believing the e-mail so easily...

The DS-3032 Choice of Agent that the petitioner receives can even be faxed to the foreign spouse. It states that clearly on the DS-3032. It doesn't appear they are as concerned with this as they are with other forms. Members have been using the unofficial email system for choice of agent for over a year now.

You can see an example of an email in the pinned Timesavers thread in the NVC Forum. There is a link to it in my signature. The thread also holds James Shortcuts, whereby a lot of time can be saved during the NVC process.

That is the standard language from NVC. You can send the downloaded DS 230 from computer only after NVC generates it. Some websites may have outdated DS 230 part I and II. Therefore, NVC discourages people to send downloaded DS 230. But this VJ site has a link with the DOS website for DS 230 which is always in its recent version.

I-130 Timeline with USCIS:

It took 92 days for I-130 to get approved from the filing date

NVC Process of I-130:

It took 78 days to complete the NVC process

Interview Process at The U.S. Embassy

Interview took 223 days from the I-130 filing date. Immigrant Visa was issued right after the interview
