Long form birth certificate

So. I have been on the phone with people in my home state trying to see if I can obtain a certified copy of my long form birth certificate. The one I ordered a few months ago is a simple computer generated document with minimal information. According to the records people there is no long form birth certificate available. One guy told me it might be possible to have someone find the original in their records and make a certified copy but when I sent them the request form, they said they never received it and I have heard nothing back after calling again and being told they would check on the situation. My wife is worried that if she doesn't have the long form of my birth certificate at her interview in Mexico it might cause a denial. Anybody else had trouble obtaining a long form birth certificate? Thanks.

What did you mail in the IV package? You needed the beneficiary's original birth certificate for that, so unless you asked for permission to present it at the interview instead, you're going to be looking at a checklist (RFE). I'd ask in the regional subforum so other Mexico filers can give you more specific advice as to how to go about this. good.gif Lots of luck!

The truth is i won't know until the interview next month. However, from what I've read on the forum here, I've seen enough folks say it was required that I ordered one myself.

When I received it, i realized it was simply a photocopy of the original one on their paper. Since I'm in possession of my original birth certificate, I even asked the state if the original was acceptable instead of paying the $50 for the "long" form, and she said no.

My interview was six weeks out when i was first notified of the date. Hopefully that will give you enough time to get it. I got mine because i want to do everything possible to avoid admin processing - assuming one can actually do that . . .

I never said that you were, and what does that have to do with anything anyway? unsure.gif You still have to send an original copy of the beneficiary's birth certificate with the IV package, whoever that person may be.

Hi

My fiance had his interview on 01/07/2013, and he was asked for my long birth certificate at the interview. He only had the one with the short one ( not alot info on it ). I had to drive to Austin that day for the certificate if I did it over the mail and order it they were going to take 6-8 weeks to ship. I drove 2-3 hours went to there office and had in my hand in 15 min max.

Thanks

I have heard that the short birth certificate is enough unless the official specifically asks for a Long birth certificate. Do not order it online, there have been many situations and complaints that when ordering online they don't receive the long form. I called the vital records office in my location of birth and specifically asked for it and gave them a credit card number for payment. You can also go to city hall if you live in the same state you were born, and pick it up personally. Best of Luck.

Sorry, didn't understand your reference to beneficiaries birth certificate. Hers was never a problem. But, here is what I found out today. I need to take the computer generated one I have, fill out a form and include a cover letter. Send it back to my home state (with another fee of course) to have an "Apostille" attached to it. ...going to their web site now to see what it's about.

So, apparently this is what Washington State does as well as some other states listed. I hope I can make it happen in 6 weeks. Ha! http://www.sos.wa.gov/corps/apostilles/

Whenever I had to get an apostille, I just called the State Secretary's office to make an appointment and went in person. I was always in and out within ten minutes of arriving, apostille in hand. I had to drive the hour to get to Harrisburg, but it was much easier and quicker! Maybe you can do something similar?

Ya, they are not going to let us get by without paying another fee, are they? I'm crossing my fingers that there will be enough time. I will be interested to hear what you have to say about the interview afterwards (my wife even more). Wish you the best on the interview.

My problem being I haven't lived in Washington State for 12 years and I'm 1,400 miles away from that office. Hmmm... could one of my parents go to that office with my birth cert. and get the apostille done? They will be visiting me in a few weeks and could bring it too me.

I don't see why not. My dad did it for me once while I was down here in Ecuador. Call first to confirm, but I'd bet you it'll work!
