Folks, I am rushed and confused and there's a lot of conflicting information on this. My husband and I thought we had to wait to be assigned an interview date before scheduling the medical. We were planning for him to get the interview notification and then schedule his medical a week or two before that, so he doesn't have to fly/bus to London twice. What do we really need to do, and when, to make sure we are timing everything correctly? We are currently at the point where I just paid the AOS bill online and am preparing that package to send.

There are a few countries that allow advance medicals. The Philippines and the UK are some of them, so as soon as you get a case number, you can get a medical done. But remember, typically, medicals are only good for up to 6 months.

For those in the UK, I'd suggest waiting until you get an interview date assigned, or at least a case complete, before getting the medical done. For the Philippines though, unless you expect your NVC process to be long, I suggest getting it done right away as they have to have TB tests (I believe that's the test) where it's often a false positive, but they have to undergo 6 months of treatment regardless. So if one waits until after an interview is scheduled, then finds out they need treatment, they need to wait 6 months and reschedule their interview. This unfortunately happened to a friend of mine here.

But, I digress. If you don't want to fly to London twice, then just go there for about a week, get the medical done right away as it can take a few days for results. Then, after the interview, fly back home. A lot of Canadians do this in Montreal as there's only a handful of panel physicians spread throughout Canada.

When i called to ask about the packages the rep said they didn't receive it till now although it was delivered from a week . is this normal ??

The operators won't know a package has been received until it's been reviewed. So, if they're saying they just received it, that means they're starting the review on the package. This is good news ;)

Thanks Saylin, Yes, we've requested supervisor review and we're getting a new marriage certificate as well. Just little upset for unnecessary delay at no fault of our own.

Surprising thing is, we've still not received an email about checklist. Is it normal to not get checklist if the case is being reviewed by supervisor? My husband did call this morning but the answer he got was 'you just submitted the request yesterday' (kinda true  )

It can take a few days to receive correspondence from NVC. This is why I always suggest calling every single day so you can stay as up to date as possible on your case.

Yes I do, mine went in about the same time as your's. I always think I'm bothering them right after I get off the phone then about 20 mins later I realize that is what they are there for and will likely call every other day again. I want to be made aware of a problem as soon as it happens and not when they notify me! I didn't get notified about having a case # until 3 days after I found out via phone. 3 days is 3 days of shipping time and later dates. EVERY day is one less we are all with those we love. So the 2 min.s I speak to them and their annoyance with me will just have to be put aside. Bringing home our spouses is what is most important after all, not grumpy NVC workers! haha

I've never had a "grumpy" person. I've had the 15 or 20 day answer, but I know it's the standard response.

Have you tried calling right when they open? I've always had a good experience, with no waiting time, and nice people, at that time of the day.

I remember being obsessed too, not wanting to loose 1 day, but not knowing something for 1 day doesn't always mean that you actually looses 1 day.

No I always call late at night, probably when they are tired! haha I have had good and grumpy people when I've called. I only called 5 days in a row to get the case # and this was the first call checking on the AoS and IV. At this point no I won't really lose a day on many things but when it comes to having to reorder something and you find out late on a Friday that had you called Thursday would have had a day to work on and now you have to sit on the weekend...that kind of time frame stuff does add up, especially when dealing with international communications/mailings and time zones to communicate. May not ALWAYS mean you lose a day but pretty frequently from my experience it can add up.

Last night when I called she told me they go straight from receiving into review and once they get to them and review them, only then are they entered into the database fort he operators to be able to tell us status and such...that was what I was told.

This one keeps saying processing at nvc till case is complete and submitted to the embassy , once the embassy receives it it changes to ready . It don't say a lot regarding the process in nvc

I just sent my DS-261.

Just a question:

Is the A-number (A*********) at the bottom right of the confirmation page my alien number?

I know the MTL on the left is my case number, but I'm wondering about the other one. It might just be the confirmation number. But I don't know my Alien Number (if I have one) so I'm just asking.

Thanks.

I have a question,

Im just getting stuff ready for when I get to the NVC. My father is going to be my co-sponser since I have no income. Does he need this year tax returns and 2 years before or will last years and 2 years before do? Because I know the deadline is April 15 and hes going to use his business taxes as the income as he is the owner, founder, etc. I didnt wanna start another thread so hopefully somebody can help me out here :D

Since the interview will likely take place after the 15th, he can submit this past year's tax return (if he doesn't have transcripts) and the past two years' transcripts (if needed). Last year's (2012) will most likely be needed since the deadline is only a few days away.
