Medical booked - 7th May :D

Folks, I am rushed and confused and there's a lot of conflicting information on this. My husband and I thought we had to wait to be assigned an interview date before scheduling the medical. We were planning for him to get the interview notification and then schedule his medical a week or two before that, so he doesn't have to fly/bus to London twice. What do we really need to do, and when, to make sure we are timing everything correctly? We are currently at the point where I just paid the AOS bill online and am preparing that package to send.

I'm a dual US/Hungarian citizen (both by birth; Hungarian citizenship verification TBA), and my husband is a dual British/Irish citizen (by treaty) from Northern Ireland. We are atheists.

All advice is given pursuant to the Disclaimer that you may read at the bottom of each forum page.

Don't you hate how you feel after you call? That's why I decided to take a break from calling. I think I get the same person every time and she always says the same thing and makes me feel stupid for calling.

Yes I do, mine went in about the same time as your's. I always think I'm bothering them right after I get off the phone then about 20 mins later I realize that is what they are there for and will likely call every other day again. I want to be made aware of a problem as soon as it happens and not when they notify me! I didn't get notified about having a case # until 3 days after I found out via phone. 3 days is 3 days of shipping time and later dates. EVERY day is one less we are all with those we love. So the 2 min.s I speak to them and their annoyance with me will just have to be put aside. Bringing home our spouses is what is most important after all, not grumpy NVC workers! haha

I actually asked a similar thing on the UK forum under the medical.

Speedwell: What you and your husband are planning is what I am planning. I will go to Montreal about a week or so early, get my medical and then do the interview. I had thought about going to a Dr in the west but I am bad at math so I wasn't saving anything after I figured in my cost to fly to Montreal anyhow. There are only 4 panel physicians in Canada. I can't book the medical until I have the interview, but maybe some people can.

The standard advice is wait, since there can be some back and forth between NVC, but I have to go abroad and have other issues which means I cannot attend a medical at short notice. Add that to the fact that I expect to move in october, so I went ahead and booked it.

As soon as you have the case number you can have the medical, and the details when sent to the embassy will be kept until the interview package arrives. I literally just spoke to Kinghtsbridge (you panicked me and I wanted to check) and there is no requirement to have an interview scheduled.

God, so sorry about that. I wish they could process him in Dublin instead, it would be so much easier.

Speedwell - you can book your London medical as soon as you have an NVC case number! I've been and had my medical and am still awaiting a case complete! So really it's up to you guys when you book it for. Results take about 4 working days to get from the doctors to embassy so you would probably need to leave that amount of time between medical date and interview date xxx

From the thread Zandra linked:

For IR1/CR1 visas processed through NVC: The NVC schedules your interview when your case is complete. Then you schedule your own medical to happen before the interview..I would say at least a week before. Your London website page. http://london.usembassy.gov/imnvcoct.html

It IS different for DCF filers (which we are not).

That's exactly what we were looking for.

Thanks everyone!!!

Heh. OK, for better clarity, quoting you-know-who from you-know-where:

If the petition was submitted to a USCIS lockbox in the USA, the NVC will schedule the visa interview independent of when the applicant schedules their medical exam. The consulate will not issue the visa until both the interview has been conducted and the medical exam results have been received from the Panel Physician.

That's the problem, we only have 1 original and we already sent it.

Get a supervisor review. It typically takes a few days. In the meantime, get another copy of the certificate from the issuing agency. If for some reason NVC actually lost your document, ask for your case to be completed anyways and you'll bring the new original to the interview.

Thanks Saylin, Yes, we've requested supervisor review and we're getting a new marriage certificate as well. Just little upset for unnecessary delay at no fault of our own.

Surprising thing is, we've still not received an email about checklist. Is it normal to not get checklist if the case is being reviewed by supervisor? My husband did call this morning but the answer he got was 'you just submitted the request yesterday' (kinda true  )
