Dear wives/fiancees! Before you decide to be with someone, get to know your soulmates, ask questions as more as better, don't be shy! I have known some women who didn't know their men a year & more, they find out anything important in the end of process or when they start living together. Beware being fooled or dissapointed, unpleasant surprises are not surprises

I've been married three times, Kaz. I can tell you that people change, or stop lying to themselves and you, as long as years after you meet them. Both my previous husbands had problems I couldn't have known about from the start; one decided five years into the relationship that he missed the experiences he didn't get as a young man (he was a virgin when we met), and the other simply stopped fighting the depression he had been fighting his whole life seven years into the marriage and blamed me for his unhappiness.

All you can do, and what my third husband and I have done, is to have the attitude of willingness to get through all things together and to be honest and forthcoming as possible before things go wrong. Things will go wrong and you have to be ready to deal with them together. It's more important to be able to overcome troubles than to not have them in the first place.

I'm a dual US/Hungarian citizen (both by birth; Hungarian citizenship verification TBA), and my husband is a dual British/Irish citizen (by treaty) from Northern Ireland. We are atheists.

it was the man I do believe Michael Banbury.. Yes they did a urine test and a blood test is he the doctor that insures that is will be documented the use of it..

Hey Samie,

I found this and hopes it helps; http://travel.state.gov/visa/immigrants/info/info_3745.html#_What_should_the_1

Here is an excerpt: What if the applicant has been treated or hospitalized for psychiatric or mental illness, or alcohol or drug abuse?

Applicants treated or hospitalized for psychiatric or mental illness or alcohol or drug abuse must present written certification including the diagnosis, duration of treatment rendered, and prognosis.

I dont think he should be denied since he was not treated for drug abuse. Let us know how the interview work out for you. Keeping my fingers crossed on this.

After all this waiting he does a dumb thing like that... So will we be denied help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am so devastated a mind is a terrible thing to waste... Why does he not use his mind...that's only common sense.. so depressed now

I went through the same thing with my fiance...I coached him just to say NO if asked even about cigarettes just to avoid any issue but he somehow thought being honest wouldn't effect his chances of approval since he knew a drug test would come back negative anyways so he admitted to smoking weed 2 years prior....his medical exam was back in June 2012...he was told to pick up his medical results at the end of the week and when he arrived to pick them up he was told they were sent directly to the Embassy...this is when I became suspicious that something was up....when he went to his interview everything went well as far as the questions and all other documentation but at the end he was told he could not be issued the visa due to the fact the physician stated in his documentation that my fiance smoked 6 months ago!!!! This was false, he had a negative urine drug screen, and he had told the physician it had been 2 years but they consulate officer told him they had to go with what the physician stated...this means that the medical examiners falsely judge applicants as well as falsify information on legal documents not to mention according to the CDC who regulates how medical exams are performed for immigration purposes states that physicians are to use DSM criteria, which is how psychiatric disorders including substance abuse and substance dependency are determined. I am an RN and at the time I was working in the psychiatric field and discussed the situation with the psychiatrist I worked with who told me there was absolutely no way they could have diagnosed my fiance with substance abuse (which is any use within the past year) or substance dependency according to DSM criteria per the information he gave the physician...yet it effected his approval. Thankfully as of 2010 the DSM definition of substance abuse changed from any use within 3 years to any use within 1 year making a ban a shorter length of time. My fiance was giving 6 month ban and once the date he was given that we could contact the Embassy again had come they would give him a second interview date. His 6 months was up December 28, 2012, I emailed the Embassy the same day and surprisingly received an email back the same day with his new appt date that was only 2 weeks out...our case was frustrating to say the least, especially considering the fact he was falsely given a ban not to mention they decided to tell us after the 6 month wait we needed a joint sponsor (information that was never told anytime prior to the entire 6 months that we were waiting), which we never needed because as I mentioned I am an RN and make well over the required poverty limits...it was just one thing after another...luckily everything worked out although the wait was agonizing...he was approved January 15, 2013 and for 2 weeks after the Embassy would call my fiance each week requesting something else...then 4 weeks after that with no further correspondents with the Embassy (I only called DOS to check the status of his visa) making a total of 6 weeks in administrative processing his visa was issued...he has been in the US for almost a month now and I have to say it is such a relief to have him here. Needless to say its hard to say what these physicians will say...I never thought they would put false information on a medical report but apparently they can and do...believe me I intend to bring this to the attention of the CDC and immigration authorities because they need address the issue...it's so unjust...hope this was helpful...wishing you the best, hang in there!

My fiance first went to St Andrews Medical and that is where the physician put false information but when he went to Banbury for the second medical he was super nice n gave him a good report...wish we would have gone to him first...even though they charge more

Did your fiancé actually read the first medical report? The doctor may have entered the correct information in your fiancé's medical report, and the consular officer might have been testing your fiancé through the use of misinformation. I've seen this approach by consular officers at the U.S. Embassy Manila. Just saying...

**bracing for the flames**

I think the real problem here is the U.S. government, for making marijuana illegal in this country. Or more appropriately, the people who vote for lawmakers who still have those archaic/uninformed/fear-based beliefs.

Amen to that

Wow at the responses in this thread - For those of you dealing with other countries - ask people going through those embassies if they test for drug use - 99% of the responses will be no. Jamaica, without fail, will test for drug use - and the doctors will press to ask if they have ever even tried it - Many people get overwhelmed, and think that they will be honest and admit to trying it in their past (ummm.. didn't even one of our Presidents admit to that?) - But in Jamaica, all it takes is the doctor writing down that it has been used - even with a clean drug test, and that is sufficient for the ban.

Samie, I am sorry you are facing this - but you need to prepare yourself for the possibility of a one year ban - just be grateful the law was revised, it used to be three years. It should be one year from the date of the medical - then he will need a new police report, new medical, and a second interview.

For those not familiar with the Jamaica consulate - Right or wrong, this is a reality - Not one faced at many other consulates - so it is easy to debate the rights or wrongs of it - But one simple act as a teenager (something MANY Americans have done / still do) - is enough to ban the person for a minimum of one year. So before you debate the rights and wrongs of being honest - put yourself in their shoes -

That IS true of other countries, too. They can and will drug test if they have any reason to test, and they ask about drug use as a matter of course. My husband's long hair, for example, may very well trigger either--fortunately he can answer NO to the questions, and won't turn up anything on the test.

The point that you are missing is that other countries can and will test - Jamaica ALWAYS tests, reason or not - and its not just a question about drug use - it's a constant barrage of questions over and over to try to get the person to say yes - Then, if even a yes, I tried it many years ago is elicited - its written down as a habitual drug use, and regardless of the outcome of the test, it's a ban. Doesn't matter what turns up on the test, or that maybe the person tried it once in their life 20 years ago. I recall someone who answered yes to the question about smoking (in his mind, cigarettes), and ended up with a ban because of that.

I agree, but we shouldn't say that it is rare or not done in other countries.
