Dear Friends,

I received an e-mail from USCIS on March 13th that they received the I-130 petition and have forwarded to National Benefits Center. It also has the case number starting with MSC.

Few days later I received I-797 (NOA1). But, when i try to check for the case status online it says it can not be found. Should I be worried and start calling USCIS or it is too early?

Thanks,

It can take several weeks for your case status (and often MSC receipts in particular) to show up online. A minority of people's receipts never show up online at all.

My case was also sent to National Benefit Center (Case #MSC******: file on Feb 11_13)I keep checking online and I get the samething and I even called to check status and it tells me to check my case #. But I read that this is kinda normal for this center not to update the website information. I guess we just have to wait until they send us a text or NOA2 letter. Best of Luck....

Well there were delays with site updates. You should still call USCIS and check with them. You shouldn't wait for them to update the information, but you should call them and see where your file is currently being processed. My file got transferred to local office on JAN9 and still my online status says nothing about transferred.

Did you create an account and added the MSC number or you're only typing the case number each time to the "Enter your receipt number" box? Regardless of that, what you are experiencing is quite normal. Even if you call now, they would not be able to help you. Give it several days or a few more weeks. Even if you finally get to check your case online later on, you can't completely rely on them to keep updating its actual status anyway. Good luck on your journey!

No you should not wait for them to send NOA2. You should call them and talk with T2 officer to find out where your file currently being processed. Most of i130 files are being transferred to Local offices, so you may wanna find out where it is currently. Sometimes it get transferred around and you aren't notified. Also you wanna keep track on your files as I recently seen a case here on VJ who's file were transferred around and got lost.

I say wait 2 months , then start checking online again.

After that, start calling into USCIS, asking which local office the casefile went to.

Good Luck !

Any idea why they would transfer to the local office? Is it a good sign or a bad sign for the application to be transferred to the local office as far as the processing time is concerned?

People.. You really do not need to call. Why? Why call? They aren't going to tell you anything besides for where your file is. They can't tell you when it will be done and I really don't believe that calling helps any. We didn't call and received NOA2 in 4 months. Unless you have a reason to expedite, which they're being very picky about, I think it's best to learn some patience and wait.

There are people who actually developed more trouble for themselves because they called. They were thankfully able to get out of the trouble because of mistakes that the USCIS made, but had the original call not been made, there most likely wouldn't have been a problem.

Would it have been nice to know if our petition was in Denver? Yes. But does it really matter in the end? For us, No. We don't have a reason to expedite and my husband promised to call after 6 months if they still had not done anything. It took over 2 months for the case to show up online. The online tool is also not the most relaible. There is a member who's wife is now a citizen and their petition still says initial review.

You have brains in your head. You have feet in your shoes. You can steer yourself any direction you choose.  - Dr. Seuss
