My wife lived with me in California for a year while she had a J1 visa.

According to travel.state.gov/visa/immigrants/info/info_3195.html#police

"Note: Present and former residents of the United States need NOT obtain any U.S. police certificates"

Just want to ensure that I'm understanding that correctly to mean that we don't need to obtain a police cert from that period for the DS230.

I hope I am because it's quite tricky to get that cert without being physically there.

You are correct. Police certificates are required for all countries lived in except the US. The USCIS, NVC and consulate all run separate FBI background checks, at which any criminal history within the US would be discovered.

Agree!

thanks for the quick replied and boosting my confidence about it!

Now if only the fee payment site listed the IV bill as payable I'd be able to move on! Arggh. This is the 3rd day since they confirmed the ds3032. I'll wait until tomorrow to call I guess.
