I sent a mobile phone to my mother and a digital camera to my brother in a single box via LBC air cargo for $30. The box arrived two weeks later in Cebu and the contents were unscathed.

There's no SIM card in iPhones 4 and 5. My phone is jail broken, and still does not work over seas. I have iPhone 4S. So. Good luck with that :)

The iPhone is quad-band, so is capable of working anywhere. However, U.S. models are carrier-locked and wont recognize another carrier's sim card. A simple jailbreak will not unlock the iPhone. I got mine unlocked by the carrier, which they will do as long as the phone is no longer under contract. Now my Globe sim works fine after I cut it own to microsim size.

Good to know! Not sure how this person ever got an iPhone to work there...

http://store.apple.com/us/buy/home/shop_iphone/family/iphone5

The unlocked iPhone only works on supported GSM networks, such as AT&T in the U.S. When you travel internationally, you can also use a nano-SIM card for iPhone 5 from a local GSM carrier. The unlocked iPhone 5 is model A1428. For details on LTE support see www.apple.com/iphone/LTE. The unlocked iPhone will not work with CDMA carriers such as Verizon Wireless or Sprint. Learn more about the unlocked iPhone

The unlocked iPhone includes all the features of iPhone but without a wireless contract commitment. You can activate and use iPhone on the supported GSM wireless network of your choice, such as AT&T in the United States. The unlocked iPhone 4, iPhone 4S and iPhone 5 will not work with CDMA-based carriers such as Verizon Wireless or Sprint.

If you don’t want a multiyear service contract, or if you prefer to use a local carrier when traveling abroad, the unlocked iPhone is the best choice. It does not come with a micro-SIM card for iPhone 4 and iPhone 4S, or a nano-SIM card for iPhone 5, so you’ll need to get one from any supported GSM carrier worldwide. To start using it, simply insert the card into the slot on your iPhone and turn it on by pressing and holding the On/Off button for a few seconds. Then follow the onscreen instructions to set up your iPhone.

if carrier is ATT or TMobile, there is a sim card slot.

if carrier is Verizon or Sprint, there is no sim card slot.

Is quite easy to purchase used 4 or 5, that was used on ATT or TMobile, and unlock it for use in the PI.

What makes the difference here, is the Carrier as the internals and frequencies are totally different.

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !
Ya know, you can find the answer to your question with the advanced search tool, when using a PC? Ditch the handphone, come back later on a PC, and try again.

If there is a way to do it, there is somebody in almost any Filipino shopping mall that can do it for you.

yup. is actually cheaper to unlock it in the PI, than to unlock it in the USA.

Also do they open peoples boxes to check iT? Does the philipine have bans on things to send like electronics or somthing??

Cause this guy at my work said he wants to send a ####### to the philipines and he dont know for shure if that his wifes gonna get it cause he read somthing about philipines banning those..

Im not trying to troll im just wondering. Cause it seems alot of stuff here that is okay in the usa is not legal in the philipines..

How nice that you offer to help your friend from work out. All of us need more friends like you who are willing to front-run sensitive subjects.

My understanding, which you can explain to your friend, is that pornography is illegal in the Philippines. Now, explain please, to your friend, that a #######, or a vibrator (just in case your friend might be interested in later sending a vibrator to add to his wife's sex toy collection) though not pornography, is considered related, and as such is "illegal and immoral."

See:

http://www.edenfantasys.com/sex-forum/customer-service/international-ordersattention-edenfantasy/

Now I realize that the following information might not be useful to you since clearly, you would never send such a loathsome item to essentially a devout Catholic Nation, but it may be to your, uh, over-libidinous friend:

In Japan such items as dildoes are also considered immoral and illegal and are in violation of the law. However for some strange or odd reason items that are clearly dildos and vibrators but are--well, they really aren't disguised at all, but strangely since a feeble attempt has been made to disguise them, even though they don't fool anyone, these items are allowed.

An example is the classic "rabbit" vibrator (google it under google images, but only if you are one of....those people (who are over-libidinous, immoral and interested in such illegal things--oh wait, no, forget that, we are only looking at cute little animal things, not sex toys, so it's ok).

So indeed, if your friend's wife was in Japan, this would be useful information, but whether or not it will fool a Filipino Custom's officer is quite another thing. Now, of course, since so many things routinely disappear from boxes including balikbayan boxes, and it seems that it's not always related to expense (chocolates are commonly seized...or perhaps eaten) your, uh, friend will likely never know if it was seized on the grounds of being immoral and illegal, or perhaps it was seized because the officer was an over-libidinous person who wanted to add to his collection of uh, little animal toys.

The short take: I suggest that you suggest to your friend that sending a ####### is probably not a good idea.

Chances that the phone would even be operable in another country is slim to none. Why not send some $$ so she can get something she can utilize?

Slim to none? Are you serious? The Nexus 4 is a world phone. Most smartphones are.

Yeah, that's because you have the wrong version of the phone. You need the GSM version of the phone, which DOES have a SIM card. I have both an iPhone 4 and a 5, both have SIM cards.
