The police certificates are needed only after the age of 16 from my understanding. You do not need police certificates for them.

I would just get a police certificate for your daughter to be safe. Can't you get one the same time you get yourself one?

From us embassy in london website: Police Certificates for the United Kingdom: A visa applicant who has resided in the United Kingdom for 6 months or more since the age of 16, is required to obtain a police certificate from the ACPO Criminal Records Office (ACRO). Further information is available from their website at www.acro.police.uk. This police certificate will serve to advise the U.S. Embassy, London whether or not any criminal conviction is held against him/her. The police certificate will be sent to the applicant's address provided at the time of application. Please note that the Immigrant Visa Unit considers the police certificate valid for 12 months from the date of issuance, not six months as stated on the certificate. If the police certifiate states "No Trace" or "No Live Trace", please be prepared to discuss your arrests/cautions/convictions with the consular officer on the day of the interview.

It costs £45 for standard processing (10 days) and £80 for premium (2 days)

Not sure if your daughter will need one, i would check with embassy.

It is not where I breathe but where I love that I live.

I would get one for her just to be sure. Better safe than sorry when it comes to something like this. My certificate cost me around £70 with postage, fee for postal order plus I ordered 3 certificates just to be on the safe side, and so they can keep a proper one at the embassy.

Calling the embassy is a waste of money. They charge per minute. The quote given you from the London website is correct, except "no trace" means it's clear and there is nothing to discuss about it. "No live trace" means you have a police record on the books. You only need one certificate. It will never be used again after the interview, but make a copy for your files. All police certificates come from ACPO, not the local station since about Jan 2008. They come quickly so no need to pay for expdited service. Your interview could be in early July, at which time your daughter will not have lived in the UK for 6 months past her 16th birthday. But if you feel better ordering one for her, call ACPO and ask if they provide them for under 16 years old.

This would be a very useful thread for you to start reading from the beginning http://www.visajourney.com/forums/topic/350185-london-2012-k1s-from-noa2-to-interview-thread/
