Hmmm, I'm not defending lennie, but here's another case. What do y'all think about this? It's a real case that I'm personally familiar with, though I'm not directly involved.

John and Jane meet and say they love each other.

John and Jane get engaged and John applies for K-1 VISA.

During engagement, Jane goes back with old BF but keeps this a secret.

Jane gets pregnant from BF, tells her friends she isn't sure what to do (go with John or stay with BF).

John sends I-134 and supporting documentation, showing considerable assets, to Jane for interview.

Jane has abortion the week before interview and goes to US with John (he doesn't know anything about this).

Jane has been talking to her friends about John's assets, and says she may leave him.

So what happened here? :hehe:

Didn't you already post this here somewhere?

These are not immigration issues.. won't it depend on John's state laws?

No, the way to protect yourself is know who you are marrying before you do it and behave like adults.

sheesh.

Yes it's the same case.

This case is relevent to the disclosure of assets to the fiance(e), which is what the OP asked about. In this case, it's fairly obvious that Jane only went with John becuase of his assets. if John had not gone overboard with what he included with his I-134, or had she not seen it, she may have decided differently.

^it doesn't matter what you're speculating of Jane & John...or of Jane's motive or of John's stupidity...

John still made the decision to marry her and is not budging even if a "friend" sent him an email containing the "facts" about Jane...

John's and/or Jane's so called friends already told each one of them each others dirt...and John is still with her so ALLS AM SAYIN' is...lay off them. who knows what will happen in the future...maybe they deserve each other or sumthin'...

lennie...it's always good to protect yourself in situations such as this but the way you're going about it is what's ticking people off. maybe you guys have a bigger problem than your fiance seeing your financial documents. that's probably more important.

#1: It is not obvious to me that Jane only went with John because of his assets.

The rest of it falls apart for me from there.

I can only say, if you are so unsure of your prospective partner as to not share the bulk of your own personal financial information (is it money that's the #1 problem with marriages, or sex?) with them, then you have no business marrying them. Further, playing with the US immigration system and dumping someone here who is going to cost me money/resources ticks me off. I waited until I did to get married for a good reason.

Once I decided, I had no issue adding him on the deed to my equity-heavy real estate and personal financial portfolio.

Happy 5th anniversary to us.

and what was your answer to the Marrigae Broker question?

Ladies and Gentlemen,

I filed a K-1 visa, but I do not want her to see my tax returns, and see my bank statements. Is there a process where I can send them ahead of time and immigration can take a look at them and decide. Call it being careful, but if by chance this does not work and she decides to stay on her own I do not want her using my money. I know in time she will find out , but I do not know her that well to leave financial records with her to take to the interview. Lennie

You need to open to her and discuss a possible prenup with her. This is what I did too. I opened up all my finance with my girl and talked about future financial responsibility as well as pre-marital assets.
