N-600 filling date

I have a bad timing situation: I have my Oath ceremony on Mars 20th and my son turns 18 on the 24th. Theoretically if I file the N-600 right away it should be fine (since I will become a US citizen before his 18th birthday) but what date really counts? The filing date (date signed on the N-600), or the date of the NOA, or date the N-600 is received at the USCIS, or just the date of me becoming citizen? The N-600 specifies that it should be filled before the 18th birthday but in my case it is really a matter of a day or two. Did anyone have the same issue? any idea?

It sounds as if you are talking about your son automatically becoming a citizen through the Child Citizenship Act.

Assuming he already satisfies all other conditions (he has been admitted as an LPR; he is in your legal and physical custody) then he will become a citizen the instant that you do, because he will immediately satisfy the other two conditions on the day you naturalise (he will be under 18 years old and will have one American parent by birth or naturalisation).

You do not need to obtain a certificate of citizenship, but could just jump directly to obtaining a US passport for him, which would also serve as proof of citizenship.

The fact that you are naturalized before your son turns 18 will make him a citizen. The date on your naturalization certificate (which is the date of your oath) is what you will go by.

Stepdaughter turned 18 a couple of weeks before her mom's oath ceremony, no exceptions. Questioning the USCIS on this issue with extended delays on both our AOS and my wife's oath ceremony, nicely of course, made no difference to them, under 18 is under 18 regardless of the circumstances.

She had to wait those extra two years with another 1,350 miles of driving. Would have gladly paid that 600 bucks for that N-600 just to completely close the door for her with the USCIS.
