Unless there is some disability where she cannot work, I don't see where the issue is for money. Between your job, which most likely pays fairly decent and her getting a new job - I am sure she could find even a room to rent or a studio apartment for a very small amount.

If she wanted to survive financially in Canada there are ways. It sounds more like you two just don't want to. Which is the case with everyone and totally understandable. But the fact is, immigration in this case will require some separation, even if just a few months. If it is only a few months count your blessings as many of us here were or are separated for years. Sometimes we have to do things in life we don't like. But these are the things that are worth it in the end.

The consulate in Toronto has nothing to do with immigrant visas. Ottawa neither. The only place where interviews for immigrant visas take place for married couples in Canada is in Montreal. But that comes way later.

Understandable... just remember we all feel the same. We know. But I guarantee you the few months apart will go by much quicker then you think, and as I said before - you are vey lucky for it to be such a short period and have such an easy country to have your wife migrate from.

Another thing to consider, if she is 'visiting' for 6 months while you wait for this process, many insurance companies won't insure her without a SSN. You will have to figure out how to cover her medical needs.

Jim, we get it. Are you getting how this process works? Because you didn't research this beforehand, and most people don't, you've put yourself into a bind. It's not irreversible or the worst thing in the world. It is a hurdle to overcome, that is all.

Here is a plan that may make it easier for her to visit for the 180 days. You drive down, with your stuff. She can take a plane and meet you there. Let her go stay at a spa for a week. However if the process takes longer than the 180 days you will want to get her an apartment in Canada. You both can open a joint account in both RBC Canada and RBC USA where it is easy to transfer money. That way you are still supporting her. Seems like we can help you make a plan of action if you're willing to understand the legal limitations. The last thing you'll want to do is incur a ban on your fiancee from entering the USA. So do this all legally!

NikiR, I was thinking of the same thing a bit earlier. That maybe he can drive down to Texas with his belongings and she can fly there. I think that would work out better, because her being in a moving van with her fiance I think would just raise too much questions and probably be denied.

In the first post, you state that your case is different than others....how? by being separated from your loved one? ummmm, that's what most have to do. She WILL survive without you, if she has to stay in Canada. You can send her money every month like most people on here have to do. Have her live in a small apartment, and you live in a small apartment until you guys get to live together. Immigration is not going to care how she survives if she doesn't get to move with you.

I don't mean to sound harsh, but this is what almost everyone is going through on this website...nothing special about your case. In fact, your fiance being from Canada makes your case MUCH MUCH MUCH easier than most people's case. I know you'll figure something out, one way or the other.
