Stress - will it effect visa?

Will it effect my visa if I am off work with stress? I am living with my parents who are both currently divorced and I am frequently subjected to fits of hysteria/abusefrom my mum, and have a highly demanding job and am struggling with it all. My employer has referred me to occupational health who will likely refer me to my GP. Will this effect my medical/visa?

I really don't think it will. You may be asked in your medical of any issues with depression etc. and I wouldn't even bring anything up unless specifics are asked for.

I've had depression in the past and I will disclose it on my questionnaire, but my doctor said he will write a letter stating I'm not a threat to myself or anyone else. This is purely stress, not depression. I don't feel depressed, just like I'm trying to burn the candle at both ends and can't do my job properly while I have so much going on.

Whether you have a job or not isn't really part of the visa process. You could say you are unemployed or I quit my job in March. Getting referral to a medical professional brings up more to talk at the medical exam. I think you are stressing, not only about your mom, but also this whole visa process. You worry about every detail so much your head is probably about to explode and you aren't even close to the London part yet. Don't you have a mate you could live with temporarily or rent a room somewhere? Remove the things that are stressing you. Quit the job if you can't keep up. Relax about the visa, the varicella, the maybe heart condition, the interview, the adjustment of status. You can't let the visa process consume you and I can tell it is. Stop thinking about it until you get notification by email that the petition has been approved. Don't check your online status, and get off VJ completely. Just carry on with your British life and don't think about immigrating or read about visas for six months or so. Dont hang on the computer with your fiance when he or you needs to be sleeping. I know the struggles of time zone differences. I would guess that you arent getting proper rest trying to be with your fiance virtually. That's the best advice I can offer.

Thanks Nick. Just so important to me that I don't want to cause any hiccups in the process. I feel that it shouldn't cause any problems personally but I do know I need to not overthink so much.

What do you mean when you say getting a referral to a medical professional means more to talk about at the medical exam? I didn't think they needed/looked at my full med history and just go through the questionnaire.

I mean you, the worrier who is honest to a fault, will think of some reason why you have to spill your guts and discuss it with the Knightsbridge doctor. I also know we have discussed that you have managed to hold down a demanding job as defense of previous depression and harm episodes if you needed a defense. Would these medical referrals and time off work change that? Oh cr@p, now I've given you something else to peserverate over.

I'm just saying you are fragile and worry, so thinking about all the possibilities 24/7 until August when you might get petition approval is going to do you in mentally. Might means...it could go longer like September. The closer people get, the edgier they are. Our petition took just 50 days and I'm so laid back I barely have a pulse. But I could tell I was getting edgy so quit checking status online. Who needs to be disappointed 3 times a day? Who needs to worry about who got approved ahead of you. Who needs to worry about every problem somebody else had in the Philippeans that might happen. It is all rubbish and I quit holding my breath and let immigration happen as it unfolded. Just breathe.

Thank you. As always, your posts make me feel better. :) Me and my man have chatted about it and he says he isn't worried because he really doesn't think there's any reason we'd have a problem with our case. And that I have no reason to talk to Knightsbridge about stress as it isn't a mental disorder, and any human being knowing my circumstances would understand that it is perfectly normal to suffer from stress. I think I might have to stop checking everything so much and worrying about problems people from other countries have. I worry about everything that could be blown up and used against me, when really I know deep down that all they care about is that I'm healthy, no danger to the US, not a public charge to the US and that our relationship is genuine. All of which is true.

Here are some links about the medical:

Visa Journey: http://www.visajourney.com/content/medical

You can read the complete immigration requirements for a medical exam in relation to mental health and substance abuse here- http://www.cdc.gov/i...ealth-cs-ti.pdf

You should also be aware of the following guidelines for the civil surgeons: https://docs.google....NFPotZjNATJyqtg

(note overseas medicals are done by panel physicians and not civil surgeons - civil surgeons are US based Drs but they follow the same guidelines but they use different forms)

Reviewing the above links will give you an idea of what the medical will entail and why you could be potentially denied or referred to another Dr before your visa is issued.

Do listen to the advice Nich-Nick has given you, we're just about to head off to the Medical next week ... the last month has been difficult and if I had worried like you are now for the full 6 months of waiting I would be a nervous wreck by now. You still have a long way to go ... live your life and enjoy the time you have with your partner whether in person for visits or just skyping ... just don't get strung up about stuff that is currently out of your control. Wishing you all the best on your journey!
