Hi everyone!

We have applied K1-visa with my fiance about 3 months ago and now we are trying to prepare for the next step. Processing times at California seems to variate a lot and all this waiting is driwing us nuts, lol.

I haven´t really found much information about moving to USA with a kid and I would like to hear some stories from you who have moved there with your child. My kid is 8 years old soon and has started to speak some English, learning very fast :)

Did you need to take your child with you to the interview at Embassy? Were they asking a lot from your child too? I wonder if it is necessarily for the kid to be able to talk English too? We are from Finland.

I really would appreciate any stories or what should we think ahead when moving with a kid.

Thank you for your time and answers everyone :)

It will be useful if your child can speak English for his schooling in the USA. As far as I am aware, he will not be required to attend the interview at the embassy but will require a medical.

Also, if your fiance is not the father of the child, you will need to get written permission from your child's father to allow you to remove him from your country.

Glad a thread has come up about this.:-)

I will be moving to Florida hopefully on a k1 visa and will be taking my year old baby. He is my fiance's Son and already registered his birth at the American Embassy and has a US passport.

My question is (and it maybe silly), does my baby have to go through any medical? If he already has dual citizenship, he shouldn't have to as he should be good to go, right?

Any helpful answers will be appreciated.

Thanks, Sinead

I'm glad to find something about this topic in this forum. I have a similar situation and I need help too. My fiancée has 2 kids and I don't know how it applies to the I-129F. I'm wondering if it takes longer for them to aprove the application, or if that's gonna be a problem? Any advice would be great! Thanks! !

Same here. Our son is a dual citizen too. He shouldnt need a medical as he is already a U.S. citizen.

Thanks Oregon Bound! I thought I saw someone somewhere telling the kid was participating to the interview. What comes to the permission from kid´s dad, I have sole custody, I don´t need his permission.

Whether you need to do this and how you do it will depend on the country. For example, the US has no requirement for you to obtain permission before leaving with your child (although both parents do need to sign for the passport... but once your passport is in hand you could roll right on out). Peru, on the other hand, requires a signed authorization to exit if the child has a Peruvian passport (my little guy has an American passport, so my fiancee could just walk right on out with him). These are only examples of what you need to do. Check with a lawyer or a notary or whatever your country's version of border control is for the steps you need to take.

Yeah. American citizens require nothing to come here, so your child is ready to come right now, just like mine is :)
