to the best of my knowledge - the hukuo book is needed to obtain other documents in china - i.e.: the birth certificate and single status certificate. uncertain about the police clearance certificate.

she has a china ID card as well - i would suggest showing up at the PSB and trying to get stuff with just the china id card, knowing full well it may or may not be fruitful.

there's a list of documents she needs from the packet 3 - 2 or 3 require showing a hukuo book in china to get the other documents.

I'm sorry, I wish I had other, positive, news for you. hukuo is such a big deal there, so if her parents are with-holding her hukuo book from her, she's gonna have some problems.

re: the extension - hey - i say file for it, it hurts nothing at this stage ... and it buys you more time to make more trips to china and 'become one, in accord, with the parents'.

ya, cash in hand fixes a lot of face (yours) and allows the parents to fix their face also. You must undertand - you are taking away their retirement program and their grandchild. Cash fixes most.

alas, the hukuo book is a must, for birth certificate and police clearance certificate and certificate of single status. I suggest you show up and plead your case with the parents, come with cash .
