Both Living Outside US. How To Fulfil Income Requirements?

I am wondering if anyone can help clear something up for me. One of the stipulations in the IR-1/CR-1 application process is that the petitioner must make at least 125% above the U.S federal poverty. In my case, my wife (duel Canadian/American citizen) was born and raised in Canada and has never had an income with the States. We plan to move to the states and manage and run a store (that has not been open yet) with a friend. Her income in the US is unaccounted for, we will be quitting our jobs in Canada and the income from the store we plan to manage is non-existent as of yet; how will we fulfill that stipulation in the application? I am under the impression that if she files taxes for the last three years with and American accountant and it meets the criteria of being %125 above the U.S federal poverty that should sufficient but will they question how she plans to sustain that income and what sort (if any) guarantee will they need that our shop is successful and she will be able to maintain an income %125 above the U.S federal poverty?

She will need to show an ongoing income and if she can't she needs a co-sponsor for you.

Does the Co-Sponsor have to be an American citizen and do they have to be related? Would the friend we intend to work for qualify? Thanks for your help.

The person must live in the US, no it doesn't have to be a family member a friend works just fine!

Sorry one more question. In the case where I can be co-sponsored by said friend; is it necessary for my wife to file taxes with an American Accountant for her last 3 years of work?

Your USC wife must file taxes in order to submit them with the Affidavit of Support even though her income will not continue once she leave Canada.

Your co-sponsor can be either a USC or a LPR (legal permanent resident, ie green card holder) and does not need to be related to you.
