So...I'm filing as married, but separately.

I don't know HOW or WHAT I'm supposed to report for my husband's US income. HELP

If your filing seperatly, then you just have to put your income. Does your husband have a Ssn or itin? If not, file seperatly and put NPR in the box for his social security number. But the point of filing seperatly is that you are responsible for your tax liability and your spouse for theirs.

On your Canadian taxes they will want to know his world income converted to Canadian dollars. I had to send CCTB a letter stating my husband's 2011 world income even though we were married in May 2012, so that they could calculate my CCTB.

I plan on going to an accountant this year because combined with unused tuition amounts and a non-resident spouse, ugh... Headache! Might be the way for you too

I had a conversation at length with Revenue Canada on Feb 8. He said to make sure we look into something called section 217. My brain started to close up with all the info, but it has something to do with a reduction of taxes to be paid. There is a brochure on Revenue Canada site about determining residency and non residency of Canada. It is not as cut and dry as we think. Take a close read through. Plus there are two forms we have to send off to them. One for our change of marital status, and the other is to determine residency.

NR73 - Determination Of Residency Staus (leaving Canada) 4 page form

I’m really not sure what you would put for your husband but I did read in a tax bulletin that if you are married but not living together then you can claim one of your children as equivalent-to-spouse still.

NR73 is not a MUST do, your more than welcome to do, most do not!! Why do more paperwork than you have to do!! Serbinski is a fairly good and free tax forum

They cut off my CCTB in October as soon as I let them know I was married. I can't be bothered filing a bunch of new paperwork and putting him in the Canadian citizen just to wind up with about $75 per month. So I already let that one go.
