Constructing a receipt number from the cashed check

So the I-129F is in (to TSC and apparently transferred to CSC) and my check was cashed yesterday. There's a 10-digit number on the back of the check. I went to the USCIS website to start tracking my case. Registered for a new account. So far so good.

When I went to add a case, it asks for a 13-character receipt number. I tried CSC + the 10-digit number on the back of the check -- no luck. I also tried TSC + the 10 digit number with no luck. I assume that the number just isn't in the system yet.

My question, though, is: Would my receipt number be CSC (or TSC) + the 10 digit number? I am only guessing about that. I'll be leaving for Peru again in 6 days and would really like to be able to show Betty how to check the case progress over the net while I'm there. I doubt that I'll receive the paper NOA-1 before I leave.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Thanks guys.

if it was a CSC control number, it would start with WAC06..... 06 for year, next three the Julian date, then the sequence number for that date. Not sure what TSC numbers start with.

I finally got rid of the never ending money drain. I called the plumber, and got the problem fixed. I wish her the best.

Thanks, desert_fox, but this one isn't in that format. The first 2 digits are 58 and the next three are over 500. It is the only obvious legible number on the back of the check.

I won't accept it with the hyphens in it. I don't know if that's it, but that was my problem.

The number you are reading on the check is not the number you need. The "WAC" number on my check was the least legible of the three numbers stamped there. It took me three tries of guessing on a couple of numbers to get it right.

BettyAndMe,

Then the number you've taken off the check is not the Receipt Number. The numeric part of the Receipt Number will start with 07 and the next 3 digits would be probably in the range of 030-040.

Thanks, guys. There is a number fragment there but it is almost completely illegible. I can only make out 1 digit. Guess we'll have to wait for the NOA-1. :(

The code breaks down into pieces.

Service center code: Three letters. For you, it's WAC.

First two numbers: The last two digits of the year it was accepted. We're on fiscal year 2007 now, so 07

Next three numbers: The day of the year that the petition was accepted. Goes from 001 to 365 (maybe 366 in leap years?). You're probably between 032 and 045.

Five more numbers: Not sure how these work, but it's just the end of the file number.

I had to read mine off of the stamp on my check, and it was the very last line.

Annnddd, now I read Yodrak's post. Meh, posting anyway, it's sort of like Da Vinci Code USCIS-style.

They can't be processing 60000 cases in a day. Do you mean total cases that year, sequentially?

Caladan,

I agree, that's too many cases for a single day, but 99,999 is not enough for a year.

I'll hunt around to see if I can find a reliable source to confirm what that last number is. I still think it's a daily sequence, but it may not start from 00001 or perhaps there's an additional code built into it (such as, perhaps, a digit identifying the type of case).

Yodrak

[EDIT: Oh, and the middle 3 numers do not designate the calendar day of the year, they designate the facility's work day of the year. So the number won't get as high as 365 unless the facility works every day of the year.]

Caladan,

OK, found something. The last 4 digits, not the last 5 digits, are the daily sequence number. The 5th digit from the end is a code indicating that the case is of a type - such as I-129f or I-130 - that is entered into the particular database (TIERS) that can be tracked online. That code number is 5, sometimes it will be 6.

At least that's the way things were in 2003. Some things have apparently changed since 2003 because back then I-751 could not be tracked online, but today people are saying that it can be.

Caladan,

Good confirmation. If it was calendar days late September would be 350-365. Your number of 25x is a perfect 5 days per week.
