Hi all,

Hope your journeys are going as smooth as possible. I am sending in my AOS packet this week if I can get one issue resolved. I am using my mother as a joint sponsor, and have all of her tax returns (like the documents turbo tax gives you after you file), but I don't have any of her w-2s or her IRS transcripts. Can I just send in the printed pdfs of these documents or do I absolutely need to locate her w-2s and/or IRS transcripts. I'm in Iceland right now, so getting a hold of her IRS transcripts might prove difficult and costly in time. Also, if I can use the printed pdfs... should I include all of it or just certain pages? My first guess is all of it, just to be thorough... but I thought I'd check with you guys!

Thanks so much,

Alissa

I am no longer currently employed. We have been living abroad the past 5.5 months. My joint sponsor however, does have a letter verifying employment and income.

I should also note that my previous income was online about 3 weeks worth of waitress tips as I had just had a baby before we left :)

Theyre filing a different thing at the embassy then you did Mr. Smiley. (or atleast I hope thats what youre talking about)

For the 864 you can either send in a tax transcript with no W2s (because the W2 info is transcribed on it) or a copy of the tax return with the W2s attached. (your tax return can be something you print out from a pdf file turbo tax gives you after your file. It would just be the actual tax return pages- the ones that say 1040 and the tax year on top and not all the other turbo tax propaganda that comes in the pdf file. or 1040ez if thats what you filed.)

But again you need either the transcript or the tax return + W2s.

Theres no way around it. If you send in anything less you'll get an RFE (if you mailed it in) or a denial to come back with it complete if you present it in person at the embassy.

For the OP your mother can get her transcripts in person at a walk in taxpayer center for free and email them to you and you can print them out. She can also request them by mail, which takes a few days to receive. They will only mail them to the address they have on file for her though (the last address on her taxes) Or she can email you copies of her W2s and you can print them out. (I really dont see a lot of time being lost if you use email)

I sent in my tax transcripts. You can order them for free from the IRS website and they will mail them to you within a week or so. I am in Japan so it took a little over a week to get them. It may be the fastest to have them ordered to your mother's address and have her scan and send them to you via email. I did not send in my W-2's.

Thanks so much everyone. I'm going to ask her to double check for her w-2s and then order the transcripts just in case! Hopefully it wont take too long!

Just make sure your mother orders the Tax Return Transcript and not the Tax Account Transcript. They are two different things. The tax return transcript is what you need. Its a line by line detail breakdown of whats on your return. The account transcript is just general info about your tax status with the IRS, if youre married, whats your income, type of return you filed, date you filed, amount you owe, etc.
