hi guys - just to update, i still need to call NVC and figure out what exactly that last checklist means.

in the meantime though, i did go get the birth and marriage docs (and the police certificate for good measure) legalized by two different government authorities here in santiago. so now they are all stamped and signed and super official looking in case i do need to send new ones.

i think, though, i will wait to send them until after i find out what they decide at the review. sending other ones in the meantime i think might just confuse the issue no? (plus it's expensive from here.)

plus i was told by the NVC that after the review they would explain to me what exactly they were looking for in the documents.

would appreciate any other thoughts on that. we're not in a HUGE rush (shooting for moving to the US in august) so i kinda want to wait to see how the supervisor review turns out, for future folks applying for visas from here.

If you're in no rush, then definitely wait till the review is over. But call today and inquire about that checklist letter you received.

okay, just called and they said they were still requesting the birth and marriage certs. (and the lady was nice this time, yay!)

going to wait a few more days and call again to see about the review.

yea not in too big of a rush still, our goal date for moving to the US is the first week of august. so barring any complications post-NVC so far so good on time.

Have you heard of the "unobtainable documents" process? You might end up going that route because you are at the mercy of incompetent fools at the NVC.

Thanks for the suggestion! I will see what they say about the review. The I'll try sending in the original AND legalized docs probably if needed. But if that doesn't work for some reason it's good to know there's an alternative option!

I'm in the same boat, waiting 10-15 business days for a review to find a document that we included and properly labeled. In the meantime I've had the beneficiary mail over the same documents again so we can have them ready to mail in again if the review does not find the document. Please let us know how long it took for the review to be complete.

Just got our docs from the Registro Civil. They are as "unofficial" looking as the on-line ones. Hopefully, this doesn't happen to us as well. How did everything work out for you? Any news? Best of luck!

Hey - that's cause they are the SAME as the online ones! That's what NVC doesn't understand. You can get them legalized if you want, here in Santiago you do it in the centro. Idk about in Antofagasta. You can try googling "legalizado Antofagasta" and see if that works. I think I'm going to try calling NVC today and seeing if they've got to reviewing our docs yet. Will let you know what I hear.

Good news!

Just called NVC and they said that our documents had been approved! So we don't have to send new copies -- they did realize that the BC and MC were, in fact, originals.

So, now our case has been sent to the embassy. They said we couldn't get in for a March interview but they hope that we'll be able to have one in April. Fingers crossed!
