Hi all,

Does anyone know whether or not the petitioner's (US Citizen's ) original birth certificate is required at the interview? They mention the beneficiary's birth certificate is needed but does that also mean the petitioner's as well? I just want to make sure I am not leaving anything out. Ugh! So many questions....

As I understand things...

You must be able to produce the original of each and every document submitted with the original application.

Since, I think, many petitioners submit copies of their birth certificate as proof of Citizenship, most guides will advise that you have an original birth certificate at the interview.

I sent the originals to Claudeth of all documents I included in the petition, one being my birth certificate. They didn't ask for any of them but it is always better to be safe than sorry.

It's not needed if it wasn't submitted with the original petition. They may request it if it was submitted with the original petition.

We got through the entire process without any immigration authorities ever seeing the US Birth certificate (used US passport for proof of citizenship).

Ditto! It's not required but it's better to be over-prepared than under-prepared because in this game it can cost you a lot of time and energy. I recommend providing an original BC just in case.

HCMC wants to see Petitioner and Beneficiary's ORIGINAL/CERTIFIED Birth Certificate.

For the following reasons:

Not all USC's were born here, some are naturalized USC. US Passport doesn't help the consulate to verify Naturalized USC's origin.

Reduce risks of fraudulent marriage (cousins marry each other to bring relatives into the US)

Reduce risks of relatives who have different last names but live and born in the same village (HCMC has been known to go to your birthplace to verify if you and your petitioner aren't related)
