Mine is from RCMP. Yours looks great!

So, I went to commissionaires to get my police criminal record check. I gave him my maiden name as well and I saw him enter it in the computer. A couple days later I received this in the mail. It lists my current name but not my maiden name. Is this ok?

Just bumping up this thread. I went for my K1 interview today and everything went swimmingly except for one hiccup. This CPIC did not have my maiden name on it. I went back to Commissionaires and he tried to tell me that's just how they come. I said well that's impossible because the US consulate told me I HAVE to have my maiden name listed on it. Anyway, he is ordering a new one with my maiden name in brackets beside my current last name.

HINT: I was told if I had the print-out with me that listed my maiden name as being part of the search they would accept that. Of course I didn't have it. BUT if you are a divorced woman with a previous last name, have the Commissionaires print out the search requisition so that you can put it WITH your police certificate just in case they don't list your previous last name on it.

Mine has my current married name, my maiden name, and my previous married name. They asked me for all prior names used, I listed them, they included them in the report. If I had seen that particular question of yours previously I would have mentioned that. Sorry.

Yeah Commissionaires tried to tell me that that is just how they come, and I said that I didn't care how he did it, but I NEED my maiden name on there! Put it in brackets, anything! I should mention that the consul did say that if I had the request that listed my maiden name on it along with the certificate they would have accepted that too.

The consulate considers them valid for one year.

Better than in Canada! For immigration to Canada they only consider them to be good for 6 months.

Oh goodness, sorry to hear about that. That's frustrating! I suppose that would be easier for a guy immigrating then. Since there's no mess with other names ;)!

Reading this post today, I had a moment of panic because I went to get my check today and she used my maiden name and my married name only.

It took me a few minutes before I realized I’ve only ever had my maiden name and new married name. :bonk:

Clearly I need more sleep.

The commissionaire wanted to make sure the certificate has both last names so she input it as FIRST, MIDDLE, MAIDEN MARRIED. She was concerned that if we put it in the system as MARRIED (MAIDEN) the certificate wouldn’t show both. We’ll see what it looks like on Monday or Tuesday.

I'm glad she knew what to do. The guy at my commissionaires seemed baffled by the whole maiden name request.

I think you can do either or... We don't have a local police dept which is why I went to the rcmp. It was only $25 and I got it back right away. It took them less than 5 mins to do the check. Lol.

Can I go to my local police department and get a criminal record check done, or do I have to go through the RCMP?

You do not have to go through the RCMP unless you have a criminal record in which case you'll need a fingerprint check done. Otherwise your local police department is fine so long as they search the CPIC or national records repository with your name(s) and date of birth. You can also use commissionaires: http://www.commissionaires.ca/ I went to my local police station in Mississauga and got a police check done in 5 minutes. It cost $45.

For me it was Commissionaires at $37.50 or the Lethbridge Police for $55. I went with Commissionaires.

Not all communities have RCMP that’ll do the Criminal Checks.

Maybe if they have a local police dept that's why? I didn't have another option unless the sheriff or peace officers could do it. LOL

Thank you for the information, NikiR and Pocheros! I have no criminal record, so I'll go through the local office. This makes things easier. I'm thinking its going to be a good idea to get the documents gathered, even though I don't have my NOA-2 because my spring is going to be super busy.
