I moved overseas to find a job. I did. Now I want to quit my job here and move back home.

Before I do that, I want to marry my GF here and take her home with me (eventually) or start the process of getting her a fiance visa.

Here's the big problem: I will be unemployed when I turn in the paperwork for whichever option I choose.

Despite the downturns in the U.S. economy, I am confident that I can find a decent job in America once I return.

I was gainfully employed up until December 2011 (when I moved) and I have been gainfully employed here in Hong Kong since January 2012. No gaps until I actually leave here.

Any advice? I have yet to see anyone address this sort of topic. And, yes, I am aware of options regarding co-sponsorship of the visa.

Thank you.

If you are aware of the options regarding co-sponsorship, then that is your answer.

You will need a co-sponsor unless you move back and get a job prior to submitting your affidavit of support AND the officer approving your visa finds your current income to be sufficient enough to approve w/o cosponsor.

Like KDH said - you'll need to move back first and find employment, find a co-sponsor, or have enough assets for 375% of the poverty level for your family size.

Three options:

- Co-sponsor

- Move back and get a job before you need to submit the affidavit of support (move back early enough that you have a few payslips to show)

- Sponsor on assets (that is what we did as my USC husband lived abroad with me too).
