Getting NBI Clearance while outside the Philippines

Hello, everyone! :)

I know I will eventually need police clearance from NBI. Unforunately, the only time I can be in the Philippines is August 2013. The time we wish to be interviewed for the CR-1 visa is September to October 2013 (for we plan to fly to the US in November)

Will getting the NBI clearance in Aug affect our CR-1 visa timeline? Or should I try to get it earlier? Is there any way to do it purely online?

No online for NBI. They need to take a photo of you. What you can do is get an NBI clearance when you arrive in August. You might get lucky if the Embassy will not ask for a newer one. But if you have time a few days before the interview, get a new NBI clearance.

Go to Robinsons Otis in UN Ave. (near Unilever). There's not a lot of people there.

Thanks for the tip.

Unfortunately, I am not living in the Philippines anymore, but I am Filipino. Has anyone tried getting NBI clearance through Philippine embassies or consulates?

For spousal visa application her NBI clearance is needed during the NVC stage. good.gif

Go to the Philippine consulate where you are.

Thanks. I'm emailing them now.

I just read the instructions, it seems you still have to go to the NBI center. That was just for scheduling and encoding of information...

Wow. An online NBI clearance that actually requires you to still be in the country. That is just so inconvenient. I wish the Philippine government dealt with paperwork online :(

When is it exactly needed? Sorry, I'm such a newbie. :( before NOA2?

After NOA2. The approved petition will be forwarded to National Visa Center.

I'm trying to determine if my visit to Manila in Aug 2013 is timely for me to get an NBI clearance then and to have an interview scheduled in Sept or Oct outside the PhIlippines (I live in Japan).

Will that timeline work?

NBI Clearance is valid for one year. You don't need to get it in the Philippines. Though you cannot do it online.

What country are you in, that you are living outside the Philippines, but applying in Manila to go to the USA?

We're living in Japan. We're planning to move back to the US by November this year. I already have a trip to Manila planned for August, just a visit, not to have any visa application/interview done there since I don't live there anymore.

I was just trying to find out whether getting my NBI clearance in August will be timely for a plan to hopefully be interviewed in a US consulate in Japan in Sept/Oct 2013.

Just trying to really consolidate a timeline for all my travel plans this year.

Hard to verify the fingerprints match the person in the picture, visa internet. Does any nation to such clearances online?

You will also need to take note of an important fact. Since you are not in the Philippines, you will need NBI clearance, and police clearance from the country you are in. Since if you are committing any crimes abroad, the NBI would have no clue...

Yup, I've got that covered. The Japanese are a very efficient people. Everything gets done in hours or days, not weeks.

As for the Philippines... Hmmm... You would think that since I have had my fingerprints taken a couple of times due to having to queue twice for clearances to work, they would already have everything they need. With what Google and this forum is giving me, it seems like my hope to make this clearance a looot easier will be dashed. :(

Why not get your NBI clearance in Japan? It's faster.

Also, why are you having your visa interview in the Philippines? Tokyo has an Embassy...

As I said, I am not planning on having a visa interview in the Philippines. And yes, Japan has a US embassy and 2-3 consulates.

You still have to get the prints and photo and all of that done every time. How do they verify who you are otherwise?

Besides that, have you had any clearance done since the new NBI system?

Just do it in Japan. I know some Embassies do it in a couple hours. Japan should be one of them. Don't forget you will need Japanese Police Clearance as well, since you live there.

I'm not worried about my police clearance in Japan at all.

So, there is a way of getting the NBI clearance without going to the philippines or nay?

I guess I have to check with my nearest consulate if they do this. If not, I will have to wait til I go to Tokyo next month.

Can you please tell me how long an NBI clearance is valid? And also, if I get it this early (Feb/March), will that be too early for an intended Sept/Oct interview with the consulate in Japan? :)
