general affidavit query

Hi ,

I know i have two years to worry about this. Can someone please tell how do you get two Affidavits done when you have no friends in the USA. My husband keeps to himself and i have not made any since i have been here. People have seen us together they are neighbours but they dont know us. Any suggestions.

Affidavits are not required. They are one possible form of evidence for a shared life together, but there are other possible forms, many of which seem to carry more weight. After all, how hard would it be for a fraudulent couple to fake an affidavit? If you have documents showing joint ownership/leasing of housing, joint address, joint tax returns, joint checking, insurance with each other as beneficiaries, shared vacations, etc., this can be more useful than affidavits. On another immigration board, an attorney frequently posts, and he seems to be of the opinion that affidavits are not worth the trouble of gathering if you have plenty of other evidence of a shared life. There are plenty of other good reasons why it's valuable to have at least a small network of friends outside the house, of course. So develop those friendships, but not just for the purpose of affidavits.

Affidavits are not required -- we filed without them and were approved without an interview, as were many others right here on VJ.

Thanks for your help and replies. I feel alot happier now. I cant use family as mine live in the UK. Micheals have passed away. His sister lives in Ausrtralia and brother in South africa. So we dont have any family in the USA.

Lots can happen in two years, of course, but it could be a minister at your church, your family doctor's office receptionist, the grocer store clerk that you chat with when you and your husband shop for groceries, someone from the local car repair shop where you have your vehicles serviced, the landscaper that cuts your grass, the manager at the neighborhood gym where you and your husband work out. Anyone with whom you might have regular contact, as a couple, over an extended period of time.

you can ask coworkers and landlords and also sent pictures from social events at work\school.

Affidavits are not required, as someone said above, but can be from anyone who sees both of you regularly.

To be blunt, I'd think a bigger problem than potential lack of affidavits is the lack of friends.

Even though lack of friends sounds sad, according to latest psychology trends - as long as a person\couple is happy with themself and no laws or rights are violated - nothing seem to be considered a problem and "absolutely normal lifestyles" are as many as there are people, specificly it is concerning introverted\shy\reserved people who 100 years ago were easily diagnosed with schizophrenia and treated with lobotomy and electric shock, and in 1980-90 were forcefully sent (and still are sent) to "extravertizing\macho dating\loud winning" training, which is a violence over the very nature of such people.

I did not bother to send affidavits and mine was accpeted for filing and I have had my NOA and Biometrics.
