My brother in law is trying to get a student visa. The problem is he does not have a passport and he wont get one in time for the interview at the consulate. Is there any way to get a passport or can they issue a visa without one? Is there temporary passports? He is from Morocco. Im just trying to find any way he can still be issued a visa w/out one. Thanks

He can not travel without the passport. The visa is simply a supplement to his travel document (the passport) to allow him into the the US. Perhaps he knows someone in Morocco who knows someone who can speed up the process of getting the passport?

Can they issue him the visa and hold the visa till the passport comes in? Then travel?

hmmm...maybe. You mean approve him for the visa but say we can only issue it once your passport arrives? I don't know. What about sending the consulate an email and asking? Or what if he takes his chance at the interview and tell them then at teh passport has been applied for but has not arrived (the consulate knows things can taketime in Morocco). Is gettign the the inteview and having to return a second time going to be a hardship?

He will do anything haha. I see u are doing the k-1 in morocco. My husband came here from morocco in april this year. The k-1 process took less then 3 months from applying to him arriving. Good luck to u. Tell ur hubby not to get the blonde woman at the consulate for the interview she denies everyone. Tell him to try to avoid her. If u need any advice you can write me or instant message me at caregiver4ever1963@yahoo.com. Where are u in the states? My name is Tammy

you cant process working on visa if you dont have the passport dear, you cant even go inside the embassy, even the people before you enter the embassy wont let you get inside if you dont have passport, passport is the number one thing to enter the US, visa is the next to support your passport.

There is no where you can get visas without a passport cos your passport number is part of the visa processing data required since it contains vital biographic data about the bearer.

If you're going to e-mail the consulate, I suggest calling them first.

Last time I had a question, I called the consulate and asked the representative. He said I could e-mail to get a better response, and he gave me a reference number to put on the subject line, so that my e-mail would be weeded out from all the junk mail they get.

Good luck!

Jackie

Your best solution is to contact the embassy and ask for a delay in the interview date until a time you are sure you will have the passport. I could be wrong about this part but I belive you are allowed two delays or postponments.
