When sending things in the mail, what is the best option for speed, realiability and of course cost?

My fiance lives in Konotop and when I mentioned UPS and FedEx she said she has not heard of them. I did see DHL when I was there, but there is no DHL where I live.

When I was there we went to the bus terminal to get a package from her mom that she sent on a bus from Germany. She basically makes it sound like the mail system there is not very efficient and reliable.

What kind of time frame should I expect when sending or receiving mail from Nevada to Ukraine?

You may want to look at DHL still if it's there. Just because you don't have one near you doesn't mean they don't facilitate pick ups from other sources such as USPS and FedEx and/or UPS.

I'd look into that. Any to your door delivery service has to be better than the regional postal service of most countries. Same for the Philippines. Mail is bad there sometimes, God forbid you send anything valuable through Manila. My fiancee told me not to send anything that I don't potentially want lost so I go with FedEx/UPS/LBC (PI carrier).

01/15/12 - Sent Aya a message on a dating site
03/10/12 - We became "exclusive"
03/15/12 - We told each other "I love you"
08/17/12 - 2 week trip to the Philippines to be with her
08/27/12 - I asked her to marry me (in Cebuano), she cried and said yes
09/02/12 - I came back to the USA

Started on the paperwork

09/22/12 - Mailed I-129F
09/25/12 - Saw on USPS that the package was delivered in Texas
09/28/12 - NOA1
10/08/12 - Received hard copy NOA1
12/19/12 - CFO Counseling Session (to get it out of the way)
04/27/13 - NOA2
05/06/13 - NVC Received and MNL # assigned
05/21/13 - Medical Exam Day
06/04/13 - Interview Day
xx/xx/xx - Visa Arrived
xx/xx/xx - Off to Chicago

I have been to Ukraine 4 times now. Within Ukraine it takes a good week to go from post office to post office. I don't believe that DHL will deliver to homes. It would be better to ship to her work. Anna has everything shipped to her work from outside the country. Inside the country she uses the post office.

Postal service in Ukraine is slow and not very reliable. If you use USPS services you should send important stuff registered, which is extremely slow but will get there intact. Most of the fast delivery services are more reliable and much quicker but it depends where they need to be delivered. Have your fiancee check out which service goes to her town. Often she can pick something up at their office rather than have it delivered to a home address. You will likely need to provide a mobile phone number for notification of intent to deliver.

I don't know what everyone is talking about, but USPS Express gets to where it needs to get to in under a week from NY area to Ukraine.

Sent a package from NY to Dnipropetrovsk - USPS Priority Mail. It sat in NY sort center for almost two weeks, got to Ukraine on Sunday, went through customs in 3 hours, and is in Dnipropetrovsk on Monday. I assume USPS just holds it for two weeks so people pay more to send Express Mail instead.

Also, she sent me a package from Ukraine and it arrived in a week and cost a lot less than sending from here.

It looks like Ukrposhta is pretty good with package delivery.

Sending a postcard via regular first-class mail ($1.10 stamp) took about 4 weeks to arrive though, but I don't know why it took so long due to no tracking info via regular first-class mail. If you want to send a postcard for a special day, send it one month in advance and it should arrive pretty much just on time.

For reliability I use Fedex or UPS. For regular stuff the regular mail is fine...2-3 weeks for delivery.
