Well...it depends what kind of AP is being done....If its from Consulate level then ur details u mentioned on ur DS-230 form and if from US then name checks from washington DC...u can know what kind of AP is being carried on u by calling DOS...they will infrom u which kind of AP is being done.

u may call following numbers to know further status of ur case:

603-334-0700 or 202-663-1225

From there u will know what AP is being run on ur case.

By theway is anything unusual in ur DS-230 details..i mean have u ever been to US or any other T-Listed Countries...////??? Have u ever being married before and Divorced afterwards ..????? Have u ever applied before..?????

Thanks for your reply Krish ,

Every thing is fine with DS-230.... i will cal DOS for getting details about AP

I have not visited any t country but i have stayed in Europe for a year on a student visa and i have given PCC from there..... i am single and not married ever ,and nothing about divorce as i didn't get married........ i have applied for a student visa and a visitor visa for USA but i was denied as my I-130 was in process.

Does all this information about my past has any impact on AP

Ok...But u must first call DOS asap to know which AP is this...????? Name check for Washington DC FBI Database or Consulate Checks..??? But io guess they are investigating about ur earlier attempts to visit US on Non Immigrant Visa i.e. Student Visa and Visitor Visa....and some details abt Europe.....Thats why they put u on AP....seems to me 99% for this reason only they put u on AP.

There r very little chances that they doubt whether u r married or not...coz this happens in very rare cases..

Can u mention why u stayed only 1 year in Europe for Student Visa not more than tat and what was ur course of Study. Did u overstayed in Europe or not...??? Which city did u lived whenu lived in Europe..????

BUt, first call DOS and know what is the actual reason of ur AP...But consulate sending ur passport back is bad news i guess...if they had kept ur passport then u were safe but they have sent back means they want to investigate thoroughly ur case.....

But i insist u to please post ur full Interview Experience on our F1 thread..there r some Indian guys whosed interviewe will be soon in India so we want to know what questions were asked to u during ur Interview. Please post ur full Experience in details starting from entering to exit at Embassy...

SAM_LEO,

Unfortunately, no one can answer that question. I'm sure you've done a lot of research on 221(g)s out of Delhi here on vj. I know a lot of the people who post about this subject are in the K1 or CR1/IR1 categories and not your category but the same general principles apply. You were given mandatory AP and you've found out from DOS that it is at the consular level [good job that - some people here think when vj members recommend calling DOS we are just pulling their chains  ]. This could mean any list of possibilities - maybe you have the same name as someone on a database and they want to clear that up, maybe you come from an area known to get easily faked paperwork [birth certificates or school certs], maybe they think it's odd given your station in life/age/family status that you are still single and want to try and confirm that in your home town/village [you are an FB-1, right? you are listed as an F1 in your filed for status [student visa] but it appears you've posted to the FB-1 topics too - so I'm going with that as what you really applied for...].

Typically - meaning for the majority of people - AP in Delhi runs no shorter than 2 weeks [ie, paperwork request that was super simple to fix] to about 3-ish months. There are many, many people for whom AP lasts 3-5 months. It is rarely more than 6 months BUT that does happen.

So, back to my crazy assumption you are actually an FB-1 - you can actually have your mom/dad [whomever is the USC] get in touch with their Congressperson's or Senator's office to have their immigration liaison look into your case too. This will NOT speed up the process but it will be another avenue to get information about what is happening.

Best of luck!
