Changing date of interview

Hello everyone. I was wondering what people's experience was with changing an interview date in Montreal. We have the 15th of this month, which is great, except my fiancee is having a hard time arranging transportation. The train isn't a whole lot cheaper than a plane, plus cost of housing/transportation in Montreal. She figures it's close to $1000 and that's money we can't really afford to spend. Has anyone changed their date before and if so, how accomodating is the consulate. Will she hear right away, or go back into the pool? Thanks!

Where is she coming from? I'm pretty good at finding internet deals if you want me to have a look - I'm surprised it would cost that much from almost anywhere in Canada. Although I guess it is pretty last minute.

I just couldn't imagine risking waiting another 2 or 3 months to get another interview. But maybe someone has successfully done this, I'm sure there are lots of people hear that would be quite happy to take her interview appointment :)

As for accomodations, hotwire.com is really good, and there is also a youth hostel with private rooms. It is very clean and safe, and that's where my family & I stayed when we went to Montreal for our Green Card interview.

I originally had an interview date of Sept 19th. I had to cancel and request another date. For me I knew when I cancelled that getting one booked again wouldn't have worked timing. I thought that a November date would be most suitable. When I cancelled I did so requesting a November date. They were both understanding and accommodating. They told me they would do their best. And they did. Each time I called as November drew closer to ask about an interview...they would tell me they could see I had requested a November date. So they clearly had it on file.

If you are flexible say for a December date or some other....email them and inquire and then follow up with a call. It can't hurt.

Booking with less than two weeks notice can be quite costly.

We booked our hotel through hotwire.com and we are staying at the Sheraton. Good prices on hotwire.

Good luck!!

My interview had been scheduled for my due date. I called and requested a new date, when I did they told me that I would be put back in line and could wait awhile, I didn't have a very friendly agent. So, I called back the next week, explained my situation and was rescheduled for just a little over a month later with no problems at all!

Good luck!

Hi, I have not myself gone through this but I have heard that once you have an interview and can't make that particular date that if you can't make it, they don't reschedule you. I don't know if others have heard this or not but my advice would be not to reschedule if at all possible. Like I said I have not experienced this but I know a friend of ours wanted to and was told they can not give them another date so what ever you do, make every effort not to cancel this appt....

That's bogus. Based on the replies here it is clearly possible. Me included. Perhaps your friend was misinformed or didn't pursue it?

Thanks! She's rethinking the cancelation now. She thinks if her mom goes with her, her mom can rent a car in Montreal and they might be able to get free housing. We've also looked into the hostel thing. There's quite a few within a few miles on the consulate, if you don't mind walking.

Maybe we can try those Toronto restaurants after all. :bonk:

jg_am, I got a deal at the Hyatt 2 nights with 2 beds is $340 and the train from Toronto would be just over $200 ( I got a deal with VIA as my mother is going with me and she is a senior, over 60 so the train was only 368 for both tickets ). And I got a deal at the Hyatt, which is a 5 min walk apparently. If you want the information on the hotel let me know.

My husband and I flew from Nashville to Montreal rtn. and stayed at the Marriott Chateau Champlain (very fancy!) for three nights for US$503 each on one of those airfare + hotel deals on Travelocity. (It would've cost just over $600 for the flight + hotel deal for me to go alone but we decided to go on a belated honeymoon.) The hotel was about a 15 minute walk from the Consulate, and our room was super-nice and had two beds. It was an awesome deal because the best deal I could find for airfare alone was $678.

I flew from halifax to montreal, took the shuttle to the hotel (which was across from the consulate) and back to the airport, and had three meals. I think I spent less than $500 for the whole thing. I am sure you'll be able to find ways to cut down your costs. :)

If you can get your mom to go with you and share the drive it should be a breeze! I looked and the drive is about 8 1/2 hrs. If you have the company you shouldn't find it too hard.

She doesn't drive and her mom doesn't like to drive far distances. The only way she would cancel at this point is if the consulate can guarentee her an interview the week I'm visiting in December. I hadn't considered a hotel with a shuttle from the airport, so thanks for that suggestion!
